Only her mother had powers.
Her mom left her dad shortly after Supers became illegal. Karen’s father said it was because her mother couldn’t reconcile her normal life with her hero life and that was true but she was also having an affair with another super.
Voyd’s father tried his best to raise her by himself in a supportive environment but not being a super himself it was hard for him understand what she was going through and to balance making sure Karen knew that her powers weren’t a bad thing while also making sure she knew that society felt that they were.
After her mother left Karen didn’t see her very often and when she did it was awkward and so when she started high school Voyd made the conscious decision to not try and connect with her mother anymore.
