When the gruff dad figure has an extra layer that makes you question his priorities about loving his adopted daughter even though there is no shortage of devotion between them
[My family] has nothing to do with this! They're in my blood, in my heart. I'm a part of them, and they're a part of me.
Maya Lopez in Maya (1x05): Echo [5/5]
thinking again about how Maya's family uses a name sign for her (a finger wave into a fist, or maybe an M?), while Fisk's interpretor finger spells it (M-A-Y-A)
Related to my last post, Echo was amazing but I felt like they wrote themselves into a corner with the final confrontation. They knew they couldn't change or fix or kill Fisk so they elected to just end the scene mid-action before anybody thought too hard about it. Not too concerned over it because IMO, literally every MCU show has had an ending problem except for Hawkeye.
Echo is good actually, and all the people who say it sucks are racist and ableist. 😊
I finally finished Echo and I fucking loved it. Everything about it is so top notch, characters, action, visuals— and Alaqua Cox really kills her role as Maya Lopez. As an indigenous person, I got emotional at some parts because of the way they touch on her ancestry. It’s so beautiful seeing Maya develop into her own power because of her family and roots. Even down to cultural details (shoutout to Navajo Tacos shfjsk) it really shows a lot of care. I think if I had any problems at all it would be with the last couple episodes and how short and abrupt the series ends (for me, anyway). Either way I hope to see so much more of Maya, and I encourage anyone seeing this to PLEASE go watch and support it. It feels so fucking awesome to see a fully produced series for us indigenous folk, especially by a major studio, that isn’t stereotypical sht at all.
so I just finished Echo
oh my god it was so good!!! ngl it had the potential to be one of my fave mcu shows
the only thing is, it felt a bit rushed and it felt like five episodes of build up and whatever resolution was there (if any) wasn't all that satisfying lol
can marvel stop trying to make shows that are as short as possible and give us something more 😭 I wanted to know more about Maya's family, it felt like Bonnie was supposed to be a bigger character (at least to Maya, idk, they built their relationship up and idk what I expected but like more lol) and she was barely there, and I wish they'd explore Maya's powers/connection to the ancestors a bit more
they better bring her back, I loved it, I'm just not entirely satisfied and I'm craving more 😂
