oh, we're doing discourse?

A) If all it takes to revive this fandom's Discourse is a single podcast episode, I really need lots of Tangled set pics in the next couple of months, and

B) WHAT IS EVERYONE GONNA DO IF AGATHA AND WANDA MAKE UP AS FRIENDS/ALLIES?

Because, okay, order of operations:

Wanda enslaves a bunch of people to play dolls with Vision's ghost because she's a shitty person with a lot of trauma.

Agatha Harkness, canon dirtbag, plots to murder the shit out of Wanda and steal her powers, but fails.

Wanda puts Agatha under an ugly, vindictive spell but doesn't kill her (my theory remains that Wanda can't help it, she likes Agatha, because usually people who piss Wanda off end up SUPER FUCKING DEAD) and leaves her in Westview, which is also a dick move.

Agatha gets an assist from Death and Billy and wakes up powerless.

Agatha then saves Wanda's children and dies on their behalf, figuring out a neat way to cheat Death AGAIN. <- THIS IS WHERE WE ARE IN CANON. I know that somehow, the entire male Marvel fanbase seems unable to remember that Agatha's a ghost, not dead-dead, but that's where we are.

So we have a serial-killer dirtbag who saved Wanda's kids, and a mind-controlling dirtbag who didn't kill Agatha who is supposedly dead.

Yes, this is how I feel about any pretense that Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, is actually dead. Anyway, the state of play is that Wanda Maximoff went cuckoo fucking bananas because her children died, despite it appearing to any rational observer her children were not real. Meanwhile, Wanda's supposed enemy Agatha has somehow managed to get her hands on one of them and protected him from actual, literal Death, her actual, literal ex-wife and parent of her beloved dead child and helped said child resurrect the other one and decided to spend her afterlife helping procure the other not-dead twin that Wanda tore apart reality to try and recover and Marvel bros and THIS FANDOM assume:

Agatha clearly hates Wanda and they are the worst of enemies, which is why she totally drained Billy Maximoff and bounced to go do evil. Oh, wait, she didn't. (Could the relationship here be complicated?)

This will have no bearing on the plot later, because an all-powerful reality bender who broke bad is clearly not going to care that the woman she took absolute care to keep alive is still around and taking care of her kids and maybe Vision, too? (Yeah, I too love to flush money down the drain and pretend Kathryn Hahn's Agatha isn't popular as fuck, said Marvel, despite it being nearly 2 years since we last saw her.)

All Agatha actually wants is to reunite with Rio/Death, who she fought against to save Billy and Tommy AND high-key kind of spitefully rejected by becoming a ghost, something Rio says she hates. (Again, this seems like Rio and Agatha are complicated)

IDK. Like, perhaps this does all end up with Agatha spitefully being like "lol, stole your family to get revenge on you mind-raping me!" and maybe it ends with Joe Locke's Billy having to talk to Agatha, who never appears on screen again. Me, I think y'all may have to resolve your feelings and be like, "wait, it's more like comics where sometimes Agatha and Wanda are besties and sometimes they have fundamental issues relating to their opinions of good, evil, and magic? Likewise, it might get complicated like that with Rio, too?"

Ironheart finale random thoughts

The thing that bugs me about the finale is that I fear it's going to make people even MORE critical of Riri. Saying she's stupid for trusting Mephisto or whatever. (As if Peter Parker hasn't done deals with him all the time.)

It is also a bit of a bummer to wait all these YEARS for this series for it to end with her NOT winning.

I wonder if this is setting up Mephisto as the villain in "Champions"/Young Avengers? It feels like there SHOULD be another season of this but I don't think we are going to get it with the way Marvel has been failing to promote this show.

Certainly Wiccan and Speed have lots to do with Mephisto in the comics--which the internet told us non-stop during WandaVision. And with America in Kamar Taj, I can see how she'd get involved. Except the only two who have teamed up so far are Kate and Kamala and I don't see what this has to do with them.

I might have more thoughts later but right now i am in the "no, riri, don't do it, girl" place.

I think I’m starting to get what the Moon Knight team is trying to do with their version of Jake Lockley. I know that people are worried that he’s being portrayed as the “evil” alter, but I don’t think that’s necessarily the case. Based on Marc and Steven, I feel like the show is trying to do all three columns of the D&D alignment chart:

1) Steven Grant is clearly the lawful one. He’s against all violence and is just a genuinely good person.

2) We were led to believe that Marc Spector is the ruthless one. But as of episode 3, he’s more like the neutral one. He’s not above violence but he holds back his punches. 

3) Jake Lockley then is the chaotic one. He’s the one who’s not afraid to get a little dirty if the situation calls for it. I don’t think he killed those guys because he’s evil, I think he killed them because he fronted during the middle of a fight and thought to himself, “Well, it is what it is”. Self-defense without holding back. 

Also, if Jake is the one who asked out Steven’s co-worker, then that just further adds to his role as the “chaotic” one. Steven is too shy and doesn’t want to bother people, while Marc is too much of a dry hardass to be pursuing anyone other than his wife. If Jake asked the tour guide lady out, then he’s the “fun” alter who just wants to enjoy his life. 

So if you combine those two traits together (the fighter who’s not afraid to get a little dirty / the womanizer who just wants to enjoy his life), you end up with kind of a chaotic man who isn’t necessarily evil, he’s just a little wild.

So I think I’ve figured out (what I think) would make a perfect plot for the next Doctor Strange film that would continue the themes of acceptance and love we see in his first two films.

- Have Stephen’s acceptance of love and trust be slow, using his struggle to control his new, dark powers as an analogue for how becoming the person you want to be is hard and takes time.

- Have his third eye manifest in the form of Sinister Strange to further the analogue, to show that he fears becoming like that. And to continue the theme of Stephen vs. himself (or Benedict vs. Benedict lol)

- Bring Mordo back, but as an “uneasy alley” to Stephen who then teams up with Dormammu to defeat Stephen because, in his mind? Stephen is the real dangerous threat, not Dormammu.

- Have Nightmare as secondary villain to show how terrifyingly awesome he is, as well as to showcase Stephen’s insecurities and fears over what he’s done and what he fears he’ll become if he’s not too careful. Also use Nightmare as a way to bring Stephen and Clea closer together.

- Have Stephen and Clea’s romance be slow burn, and instead focus the film of them becoming friends and allies first, while hinting that they’re attracted to each other.

- And yes, open the film by confirming that yes, Clea watched Stephen die repeatedly at her uncle’s hands and was inspired by/fell in love with him that way.

- Give Rintrah a bigger role (Rintrah’s adorable).

- Instead of one climax, you have two;

The first is Stephen fully giving into his dark powers to save the Earth from Dormammu, loosing himself in the process.

The second (and true climax) is Stephen’s friends trying to bring him back. Stephen hears these pleas, remembers the person he wants to be (someone who isn’t afraid of love anymore), and chooses to embrace life instead of the darkness and he comes back. He’d still have the dark powers, but they don’t have the same hold over him they once did.

- End the film with Stephen and Clea out together, chatting about where the future might take them (and heavily implying that “Yeah, they’re probably gonna start dating sooner or later”)

- Then bookend the film with a callback to the “Are you happy?” question...or set up that Kang is coming!

That would be my take on it, anyway.

Either way, I just hope Ben pulls rank and talks Feige into getting a new writer for the third film because...yeah...I may like Multiverse, but I don’t want Waldron touching my boy ever again.

And yes, this is heavily inspired by Strange Tales Vol. II, in case you’re all wondering.

I think the canonicity of the Marvel Television-produced shows will probably be decided on a case by case basis, but I don’t think anything that doesn’t contradict the movies or Disney+ shows will necessarily be thrown out.

It’s probably a safe bet that Agent Carter and Daredevil (and by extension, the rest of the Defenders shows) are still canon due to characters from those shows making appearances in the main MCU continuity.

As for everything else, it probably depends. Assuming nothing in them contradicts the MCU’s timeline, then Cloak & Dagger and Runaways are probably still canon.

Helstrom, although originally intended to launch the canned Adventures in Fear sub-series, was confirmed to be separate from the MCU before it was released,  so that’s already non-canon.

Inhumans will probably be declared non-canon, since it was critically panned, few people liked it, and Marvel apparently consider it so much of an old shame that future MCU projects cannot be set in Hawaii for the time being. Most likely they’ll reboot Inhumans sometime down the line.

That just leaves Agents of SHIELD, which is a bit more complicated. The first five seasons fit more or less into the MCU’s timeline without much issue. Seasons 6 and 7, however, directly contradict the ending of Infinity War, which Season 5′s climax ran alongside. Further complicating things is Hawkeye’s finale revealing Laura Barton to have been Mockingbird at some point, possibly contradicting Bobbi Morse’s use of the codename in AoS.

It’s possible that Agents of SHIELD, or at least it’s last two seasons, will be retconned to be set in a variant timeline rather than the MCU.

re: the possibility that aunt may or mj will die in no way home

So let’s say the leaks are true and that aunt may or mj will die in nwh, most likely to cause an emotional moment in the film and to further peter’s character growth aka the important female character dies to cause man pain trope. except, in franchicse that is so vapid and emotionally hollow like mcu spidermans trilogy, i highly doubt that either characters death will cause the audience to feel anything. it’s not like either character has gone through an important character growth or journey, seeing as they both exist for peter’s nuture and desire, respectively. in three of aunt may’s mcu appearances, she has been needlessly sexualized by male characters and her attractiveness is treated as a punchline. in two of mj’s appearances, she was a glorified background character in one film and an object of peter’s desire and later his girlfriend. she doesn’t grow or change or provide anything meaningful to the film as a whole. so if the new film decides to kill them off instead of trying to develop beyond being surface level female archetype characters then not only will it be a disservice to marisa tomei and zendaya’s acting abilities but it will also ultimately be in vain.
