Ever since I heard that there was another human in Devildom I was brimming with excitement. When I heard the word āmagicā my heart leaped. Could it be? Humans can actually use magic? My mind wandered around imagining how King Solomon would look like. Considering he was to study with me, I couldnāt conceive him being an old man of white beard, but I couldnāt imagine him being anything else. Hence, when I saw such a good-looking guy, I could only stay perplexed and smile awkwardly afterward. But he was nice as well and didnāt make a big deal about it.
A few months into the exchange program we were relatively close, āwe humans need to stick togetherā, and I often went to Purgatory Hall so we could study together. Of course, that was my excuse to be close to him. Truth be told, I was falling in love with this white-haired magician. I loved the way he teased me, and his witty comments, he made me feel calm and⦠at homeā¦
But he was THE Solomon and thinking that he could feel the same was a really long shot. So I was content just receiving his help with class, even when I didnāt really need it.
āSolomon?ā I called for him, everyone was retrieving their things since the class was over. He looked at me and smiled.Ā
āWhat is it?ā
āI still donāt get this problem, could you explain to me?ā
āSure, Luke said he was going to try making some new recipe today, Iām sure he would be happy for you to taste it.ā I felt my face glowing.
āReally!? Yey! Come on, letās go!ā I grabbed his hand jumping in place, once he was ready I started to run dragging him along. Luke was just as excited when he saw me coming, he transformed his face into a serious expression and rolled his sleeves while walking to the kitchen.
He explained to me different exercises over a couple of hours, I couldnāt stop hearing his voice. Finally, Lukeās new dessert was ready, so we decided to take a break while eating. His room had all kinds of magic books, but it wasnāt stuffed like Satanās, it was rather tidy and cozy.
āWhat are you looking thatās so interesting?ā his grin made me blush.
āI-Iām sorry, didnāt mean to stare.ā
āItās okā he took the last sip from his tea, I had already finished my cake. āSo⦠MCā my eyes enticed him to continue āwhy are you here?ā. I knew he knew when the grin never left his face, so I took my only option left: lie terribly as only I can do.
āI-I mean, w-why would I have a reaā¦? Oh! Math of course! We are here because of math. Havenāt you spend the last couple of hours teaching me? Oof, who wouldāve guessed youāre so silly, Solomon.ā The words came fast out of my mouth while I laughed awkwardly, and I ended up grabbing my cup of tea and raising it to my lips.
āYour cup is empty.ā
I stopped on my tracks. Indeed it was empty, since a while ago. I didnāt have to see his grin to know that it was growing on pair with my blush, but I did have to lower my cup eventually, and when I did, my eyes were fixated on it.
āWh⦠how did you notice?ā was the only murmur my voice could articulate.
āBecause you started to ask my help with things you already knew.ā I fidgeted with my hands.
āIām⦠sorryā¦ā my voice came softly and shy. I was sure he was enjoying seeing me squirmish, but his smile was actually full of sweetness, one that Iāve never seen before on him. My hands broke in sweat, my breathing became heavy. Then his face turned serious.
āYou know⦠you donāt need to be sorry, it actually makes me happy that you feel like that.ā
āDoes it?ā I almost jumped from my seat on the floor.
āYes.ā The silence lingered for a few seconds, my mind seemed to have launched at least 50 questions in that short time. Most of them were: āhow does he feel?ā, but I couldnāt bring myself to ask any of them.
āWe should finish this study session.ā His words broke my illusion, and I blinked into reality. Yes, math, of course.
We kept working on silence, there was nothing else I could ask him. At this point, I was working on auto mode, for my mind was extremely busy thinking. Did this mean that I canāt hang out with him anymore? What am I supposed to do from now on? I couldnāt just say that I wanted to go out with him⦠could I?
The study session finished before I could start answering questions.
āIāll walk you to the House of Lamentation.ā I didnāt know how to feel about it, but soon I noticed that it didnāt matter because we each kept silent until we reached the gates.
āThank you for your help, Solomon.ā
āIt was nothing, you didnāt need it anyway.ā I smiled, hiding my hair behind my ear. āSoā¦ā I looked at him, expecting what was next. āDo you want to do something tomorrow? I heard there is a limited special in Hells Kitchen.ā My eyes grew big.
āLike⦠like a date or something?ā My nails dug onto my hands almost hurtfully. He laughed, it was refreshing. His slight blush stopped me from breathing.
āYes⦠like a date⦠or something.ā
āSure!ā I answered almost too fast.
āThen Iāll come around 8?ā
āSounds perfect!ā my smile was surely too much.
āFine.ā Time seemed to stop when he got near me. When his lips touched my cheek, my heart dropped to my stomach. āSee you tomorrow then.ā Solomon turned to leave.
āSee you⦠tomorrowā¦ā he was gone.
Next, I was running through the entrance and halls. I could hear the brothers calling me but my mind was only focused on one thing: I have a date with Solomon! Nothing could ever put down my smile at that moment. At least not until my next big worry came to my mind: what am I going to wear?
