Laziness is a cardinal sin in residency, that’s horrible. Sorry to hear you’re the one cleaning up this situation :(
It really is. There’s nothing that gets me and my co-residents fired up faster than laziness. In fact, it’s gotten so bad with this one resident (We’ll call her Princess S because there are a lot of Princesses in the hospital) that we’ve made a separate chat that doesn’t include her because she also has a tendency to stab us in the back. She also has a tendency to dump things on us that gets other residents yelled at while she plays the goody-two-shoes and it’s not my fault card.
In fact, today, she screwed over my co-resident by telling this family that there was going to be a family meeting with the intensivist and the medicine attending, but then never set it up and left. My friend was completely blindsided, and understandably, the family was pissed off. So of course, he got yelled at. This isn’t even an outlier. My other friend frequently got yelled at for things she did because she was the 24 before him.
In some ways, I’m glad I didn’t work with her, but in other ways, I wish I did because I’m not nearly as nice as the two residents I mentioned that she’s screwed over.
I do remember that when I was on ICU and she was night float, she frequently dumped on me. My response was always, go do a fucking work-up before calling me. Her consults were trash too. She wrote on one of them that the patient had an abdominal mass, and the intensivist was asking me about it and I was super confused because I didn’t remember reading anything about it. Well, turns out, I’m not 100% sure she can read because there was nothing about it in the CT abd/pelvis. So my only assumption is that she can't read and she sucks.
And like, we’ve tried to tell her that she’s been fucking up, but she gets so defensive. My roommate told her that she was tarnishing her reputation and she wouldn’t talk to her for 2 months, so we’ve all just kind of given up on her, and we aren’t in the game to help her if she needs it. And Lord does she need it because she’s not very good and gets overwhelmed so easily. Not good things in a future intensivist. Even the future ID doc who gave no shits about ICU was able to manage 30 critically ill patients by herself including 9 admissions without help so there’s really no excuse. It’s sad, but we’re all over it. It has gotten to the point where it’s just not worth helping her out.
