Memorial Day Weekend - Tom's River, NJ (05.24.13)
Memorial Day Weekend marks the official kick-off of the summer and is probably one of my favorite holidays of the year. Why? Because my birthday typically falls on MDW, I get a handful of days off from work, and the weather is beautiful!!!
Welp. Struck out on two of those accounts, at least initially. My birthday wound up landing on the following Wednesday and the weather was cold, dark, and rainy. Obviously the 5 bikinis I packed were not put to good use (ok so I didn't NEED to pack 5, but I like having choices...).
Most of Friday and Saturday were spent indoors watching movies, baking cookies, and drinking margaritas. A little lounging and relaxing never hurt anyone but by the time the sun came out to play on Saturday evening I think everyone was ready to get outside. Talk about cabin-fever!
Rain or shine, Tom's River Bay is still a beautiful sight (I prefer "shine" to be sure).

Not that every weekend has to have some extraordinary story, but my MDW was rather uneventful. We all had a bunch of work to catch up on, which left us isolated from humans for most of the weekend.
A musically talented friend shared this on facebook today. The song is getting me through the day and the video was really inspiring. Thought it was very innovative for them to use a subject but still including the music element without flashing the DJ throughout the video (he's not too flattering; but makes good music!)
On top of that Game of Thrones was had a bi-week, leaving me to search for different ways to get my fix. I found this. It'll have to do for now. nick.
Lampin' for MDW: How Manhattanites Kick Off the Summer
Although the weather was saying differently… Summer for Manhattanites was officially kicked off with Memorial Day Weekend in the Hamptons!
To the island of Manhattan, MDW means that everyone (and their mothers) finally put their (real) NY Drivers Licenses to use and road trip it to the Hamptons. The people watching begins at the bumper-to-bumper traffic on the L.I.E., spotting friends piled into cars heading out west. While it can be quite annoying for everyday Hampton activities, (i.e. grabbing your breakfast chocolate croissant and iced coffee at the Golden Pear, attempting to obtain your summer beach pass, or shopping at Intermix in town), it is always a fun-filled weekend with friends and family!
NOTE: Please keep in mind that your friends and family are all piling into your house just to say they are in the Hamptons that weekend. Be prepared to host them again for the 4th of July and Labor Day Weekend.
As you’ve probably gathered, MDW in the Hamptons is a time to see and be seen. For example: Molly Sims shopping in Scoop? Typical. Fighting over the last grapefruit at Citarella with Christie Brinkley? Normal. Alec Baldwin picking up his fresh produce basket from Amber Waves? A weekly occurrence, starting of course on MDW. Regardless of the many celeb-encounters you will have, MDW is the time to show off your new summer wardrobe! However, due to the wind and rain, this MDW was quite different…. Instead of the beautiful summer hues one would expect to see, most people were bundled up in chunky sweaters, booties, scarves and leather jackets. But don’t fret! The weather in NYC seems to be (finally) looking up! So make sure to strut those new summer outfits to your new internship. And there is always July 4th weekend to show off your summer clothes at some Day&Night darties!
