a lot of svsss fans like to say that their fandom is special because it's not as hostile as the other 2 mxtx novel fandoms to alternate ships (the ones where the main couple gets broken up, idk what else to call them)
and I'm gonna be honest here in your asks — this is not svsss fandom's achievement. this is entirely on the fact that mdzs and tgcf both suck ass in the alternate ships department lmaoo
mdzs and tgcf have main couples for whom basically their entire life revolves around their love. mxtx probably most definitely intended it that way. and when you try to write these characters with other characters it ends up being bland. it's kinda hard to separate soulmates written as soulmates with very intentional and obvious parallels with someone else.
therefore a lot of people fall into the trap of just transferring the preestablished dynamic into the ship that they personally wanna see and it just doesn't work and ends up being clunky. i feel the same way about switch shippers a lot of the time. stop making characters more rough and dominating (outside of bedroom) than they could ever be just cause you wanna see them top later in your story, it's very obvious and very cheap.
on top of that, a lot of alternate shippers hate one or both parts of the main couple. and they also heavily dislike mxtx on top of that for 'mistreating' their blorbos. and that ends up driving a lot of the fans away. you'd think that would be obvious but apparently not. when you end up making hundreds of posts where you say how much you hate character b or how much you hate mxtx, normal and new fans are gonna look at you weird and not ship your weird ass contrarian bullshit that you made up to stick it to the evil mxtx for daring to say she doesn't like splitting up the main couple. because how dare a woman have opinions about what people do with her characters
theres no moral to the story here this rant was just inspired by a xl/hc/mq fic i clicked on as ive misread the tags, and closed it a couple paragraphs in because it felt like that one "and bumblebee" meme with how much they tried to fit mu qing into a relationship with 2 people who were clearly never interested and still stay canon compliant
Hate to break it you, but svsss fandom is as hostile as the other two, it just pretends that it’s not by acting as if the novel is a joke, Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe are walking shitposts, and if you ever analyze anything seriously, then you’re “too serious” and “harshing the vibe.” Moshang and Liushen shippers are absolutely insufferable. People want every character they ship as a bottom to be Shen Qingqiu except Shen Qingqiu, who they want to be canon Shang Qinghua. Liushen shippers are like 90% responsible for the prevalence of “rapist!Luo Binghe” headcanons, and Shen Jiu stans spend all their time crowing about how Shen Qingqiu is like a facehugger from the Alien movies because they can’t accept that Shen Jiu is dead by his own choices, twice over (and countless other times if we count that last extra).
Speaking of that last extra, people were about ready to have mxtx drawn and quartered because even before there was any translation or even raws out for it and people only heard that there would be a new extra coming, Moshang stans had already spread the rumor that mxtx “deleted Moshang” because she “felt their popularity threatened Bingqiu.” Shen Jiu stans have been either, once again, weeping and wailing like widows because mxtx continues to reiterate that Shen Jiu is an abusive pos that is responsible for every tragedy in his life past the age of 16 or celebrating as if the extra is about some sort of “Shen Jiu redemption arc” and that Shen Jiu must “get his own Luo Binghe” in another dimension (he doesn’t). For a while, those were the only posts you’d see about the fandom with any notes.
The only thing svsss fandom has on the other two is that it’s successfully convinced people who aren’t in the svsss fandom that it’s all jokes and camaraderie here.
