Question here: I am just asking because of curiosity, but do you think if JC actually got his shit together as a Sect heir-then-Leader and a person (as in becoming less of a toxic and abusive person) before the Sun shot Campaign arc or before the events that lead to the Burial Mound First Siege, would at least a quarter events of the novel be prevented from happening? Again, as you have said, MDZS setting is not exactly a particularly hopeful one until the end of it but I do wonder a bit ....

I think if Jiang Cheng has an internal come-to-Jesus moment before the indoctrination camp was over, none of the events that happened post-Sunshot Campaign related to Wei Wuxian and possibly even some that aren't would have happened, except maybe (maybe) the Xuanli marriage.

If Jiang Cheng had stopped being a self-centered asshole, Wei Wuxian would have had a partner in evading the Wen post-fall of Lotus Pier rather than putting himself at risk being Jiang Cheng's caretaker, which means the chances of Jiang Cheng losing his core go down astronomically. With Jiang Cheng actually looking out for his sister rather than trying to find cheap ways to kiss Jin Guangshan's ass, Jin Zixuan would have been held on a much shorter leash and would have had to prove himself rather than just being gifted a bride who wasn't even excited to be with him in the beginning. No one talks shit about Wei Wuxian or treats him unfairly because Jiang Cheng nips that in the bud like a good martial brother and competent sect leader would do. The Wen remnants are saved from the labor camp and given protection because Jiang Cheng honors the debt he owes to the Wen siblings for retrieving his parents' bodies for proper burial and nurturing him back to health if he still loses his core. Mianmian doesn't leave her sect due to public rebuke. The Jin never get any of Wei Wuxian's inventions or notes because Wei Wuxian doesn't die. The He Clan, Chang Clan, and Baixue Temple massacres don't happen. Wei Wuxian living means that Xiao Xingchen doesn't die. Jin Ling isn't orphaned because neither the ambush nor the Nightless City pledge banquet happen (though Jin Zixuan may still die, idk). There's a chance Su She is caught with the backlash of the hundred holes curse. The cultivation world solves problems because Wei Wuxian isn't their catchall scapegoat. None of these other tragedies happening means wangxian get married much sooner.

Like, so many things in the story hinge on Jiang Cheng, specifically, being a self-centered, spineless dickwad more concerned with the aesthetic of competence than he is at being good at anything, least of all a good person.

Hello! I'd like to ask about your AU: In your Possessed/Samadhi Fire AU, why was Wukong wearing that really good armor when Macaque and MK found him in the Diyu, and where did he get it? Hi! I apologize greatly for how long it took me to answer this, I don't have too much of an excuse other than just not being able to focus on my AU.

Why was Wukong in nice armor, where did he get it?

Seeing as Monkey King would surely refuse reincarnation and would gladly fight off anyone who may dare try to touch them, the Ten Kings instead settle with allowing the Great Sage a place in the Diyu's ranks as to avoid any casualties. Wukong then received this new armor from the Ten Kings themselves and was given a job providing deserved negative karma before allowing a soul their next life.

Note: Up-to-date, technically the armor that Wukong wears when found should match the colors on the left, only becoming red as he returns to the living world.

How did Macaque and MK even get to the Diyu?

Macaque bringing MK to the Diyu was far safer than the method MK used in order to replace Monkey King's name in the Book of Death. Being born of the Diyu, Macaque is able to travel there with ease, even knowing a clean cut way in which even a (supposed) mortal could enter without harm. The method of travel may sound familiar to another piece of JTTW media who did similarly...

Only accessible through travel by shadow and hidden deep beneath Flower-Fruit Mountain lies a dark cave that holds a pool of pitch black water. Entering this water gives one the ability to travel between realms from the living world to the Mountain of Perpetual Shade in the Diyu.

Indeed I have! (I want to preface this by saying my ft rewrite focuses way more on religion. I'm not super religious myself but since demons are a central antagonist not having it be more important felt like a missed opportunity)

I did redesigns for almost every single named guild member (even the ignored ones. The ones I didn't get to like Wan Chanzi and Mickey Chickentiger I do still have concepts for!) Honestly I really do love the canon designs for the thunder Legion but wanted to put my own spin on the gang.

Hello hello! Love your analyses and meta, particularly of the Jungian kind. Say, I don't know if you do analysis about hypothetical character traits, but I am curious on how you would think about it. My question is: Sacrifice, and defiance. And the thing where if you put two words together in different arrangements they could mean an entirely different thing than the one before.

Like, sacrificial defiance, and defiant sacrifice. I'm trying to make a character here that uses one of those two word pairs, and parallel them with another character with the other one. I wonder if you'd be willing to indulge me into letting me know of your interpretation of those two word pairings, if you don't mind.

Well, in general, I think it is an interesting concept and an interesting foiling can come up. I would suggest for you yourself to write down what you think sacrificial defiance and defiant sacrifice may mean and how can these two characters have a conflict about this theme :)

On the spot, what comes to mind is this.

Sacrificial defiance - a character that rebels against the world, but the rebellion is so absolute that they hurt themselves in the process. A character who can't accept the world around them being unfair, so they sacrifice themselves.

Defiant sacrifice - a character who is forced to sacrifice themselves, but fight off until the end and even if they have to sacrifice, they do so by staying true to who they are. Alternatively, a person who won't let others control them and so sacrifice themselves.

I think the key could be that the sacrificial defiance character might focus on the macrocosm (they want to save the world), while the defiant sacrifice character might focus on the microcosm (they want to save themselves). I think the key idea is also what does it mean to sacrifice one-self. Like, is death sacrificing one-self? Or maybe it is letting others control and twist you where you truly lose yourself?

Hello! I wish to submit you to psychological torture. I see you have Voltron: Legendary Defender in your tags? Tell me, I know that the show is a trashfire from production and execution point, even the fandom, but what do you think the show could have been, if it weren't mishandled so badly? The themes, the characters, their relationships, etc. If you were to view its possibilites in the same way as LMK, what would your thoughts be? Just curious.

Well, it could have been a lot of things, but it comes down to the fact that there was no ending, no goal we were working towards.

VLD is a special kind of bad, in the sense that they didn't have plans, and yet they forwent the obvious writing choices. We didn't have arcs or plot to fill our time with, but we still didn't write the Lion's as characters. No one in the main cast beside Shiro had an arc with their Lion.

That's crazy, isn't it? 8 seasons and we only focus on the Black Lion in s2. We never answer simple questions like, why clone Shiro? Why experiment on him? What was special about him/what were the Druid's plans? We have lore breaks like the paladins of Voltron going back only one generation.

Like, Voltron didn't need to be a masterpiece. It just needed to be fun, and it couldn't even do that.

It's so sad because s1 is good. Hunk's s1 arc about becoming a paladin of Voltron, and being given a reason to fight the Galra is one of the best in the show. We have themes of giving yourself up to a greater cause, of family, of hope. Like, we peak in s1 and go down from there. It's wild. By the end no one has unique dynamics or jokes. Why doesn't Allura become the black paladin. Why can't we do simple set-up and payoff. I don't know

I guess to go back to the original question: Voltron could have been anything. It could have been a simple story about war and colonization and hope. It could have even been good. Instead it was a story about how to not write a story, in a lot of ways

I’m always up for requests on cotl stuff related to or not related to my waterlogged au! I may not do all of them, but feel free to send some! (only rule: no nsfw requests) And thank you so much for your well wishes. I really needed it back then, haha.  

Here's a general look of what Chance looks like before and during the story (minus their corruption/ascension).

I love the idea of Chance gaining their wings somehow! That didn't occur to me as an option when I was drafting their story, haha. I'm too deep in my drafts now to change it. The idea is that Chance was born with their wings, like most other beings made to serve the gods. When the gods fled to above millenia ago, they couldn't take these beings with them. They are currently called sirens by the other creatures inhabiting hell. Siren’s creation and purpose is only a myth now. They are seen as a dying race, with very few of them left. This little tidbit doesn't really come up in the story besides the bishops and demigods calling Chance a skychild, or Ratau being surprised at seeing a siren.

Chance doesn't change too much physically throughout their life, except near the end. Their changes mostly revolve around their character, and oh Boy do they go through character development.

Narinder on the other hand, looked very different. He was not a leviathan trapped in his own tomb. Chance saw a mural of him once, in an old temple. It was pretty well preserved for a temple in his name.

Narinder doesn't remember what he use to look like. All he remembers is that his sight use to be more vast. His shoulders ache, and he sometimes remembers something soft. It's much different from his scales, fur, and leathery flesh.
