Stowaway || Mass Effect AU || Auron & Rikku
The smooth, constant rumble of the Aeon’s engines remained unchanged, but there seemed to be a subtle, yet distinct tonal difference in the ambient hum of the ship lately. Odd clinking noises had been heard in the walls, despite the fact that the Aeon had been through standard Citadel maintenance checks before they had left for the relay jump. Small items had been moved slightly, or gone missing altogether. After a thorough search of the crew for the possible thief and not turning up the missing items, some had started a rumour that they had picked up a ghost.
Ridiculous.
Even Braska had started to buy into some of the rumours, though probably more from amusement than anything else, as there was always a certain gleam in his eyes whenever the subject came up. Absolutely ridiculous. And so it was that he found himself down on the engineering level, following the oft-conflicting stories from techs who were far too superstitious for their own good.
Something skittered.
The sound was muffled, hidden. Below the decking plates. This must be where whatever-it-was got in and out of the walls, where it could remove the panels to the maintenance shafts. Carefully placing each step for the least amount of sound, he made his way over to the wall, narrowing down which section of plating the quiet noises were coming from. Almost, almost… there!
He moved swiftly, claws flicking the panel latches and yanking it open. The revealed form squeaked and tried to skitter away, but Auron snagged a handful of fabric before the sneak could get very far. He was only somewhat surprised when what he pulled out of the narrow, darkened maintenance corridor was a quarian, his grip caught in the jade-and-yellow decorative drapery over her enviro-suit. Auron eyed the stowaway, mandibles set close to his jaw in a way that said I am entirely unamused.
“Well, well. What have we here?”
