As the saying goes, a friend to all is a friend to none.

That was Peter. He was the one who was close with almost everyone in his year. He knew people, and he hung out with a lot of people. But even then, even if he has an inner circle, three people who he hangs out with most of the time, he doesn't have a best friend.

James, though kind and charming, never bothered to branch out of his social circle.

Sirius, just as kind and great, was feared and doubted due to his last name.

Remus, helpful and considerate, doesn't like to break out of his comfort zone.

It was Peter who had to make connections so they can get away with their pranks. But in the midst of making friends, he never got close to anyone.

When asked about best friends, James would say everyone is his best, though everyone knows it's Sirius. Sirius would say James or Remus. And Remus would say Sirius.

Never do they say Peter. Not even his other friends would say that their best friend is Peter.

He was just a nice guy everyone knew and loved, someone you can ask favours to and have fun talking with. But he never has anyone to come to. No platonic soulmate. No personal connections. Just a friend to have when the others aren't there.

He's just good friend Peter.
