I would ABSOLUTELY do that.

I’m not blaming her. If I had a little pond in my yard I would super super collect rocks from here. If I had any use for rocks at all I would collect them. I just don’t happen to, in my landscaping.

I mentioned it to my sister and she said “oh you hadn’t seen, as she approached she had two big rocks she was carrying under her arms that she’d hauled all the way back here too. She collects rocks every time she comes.”

I mean. The farm is downstream of a gravel mine. It’s not like there’s a shortage of rocks here.

I don’t even know if I fully conveyed how adorable she was. Oh! I’ve mentioned her in a story before, she’s also the woman who was voted Whitest Woman On The Block back when she lived in the ‘hood, and was always deputized to speak to the authorities. ah, i can’t find the post now but i wrote about it like a month ago.

What kind of dates do you think huntingbird would go on?

There are exactly two (2) kind of Huntingbird dates: dates and Fancy Dates.

Dates involve spending a night on the couch together. Hunter cooks dinner or Bobbi picks something up, but under no circumstances do they leave the house. They don’t like the outside world much after getting disavowed and they feel safer on their home turf. Besides, cuddling on the couch (and then denying they cuddle, ever) is much preferable to most everything else.

Fancy Dates are for when they’ve gotten bored of being at home and want an excuse to dress up (read: Hunter wants Bobbi to wear a lowcut dress or Bobbi wants Hunter to wear a suit). They go to the highest-class restaurant they can afford and pretend to be other people for a night. They spend most of the night observing the other patrons, then they eat dessert and walk home together, because they can.

It’s implicit in the choice of words and tone. You don’t say ‘You said character X couldn’t do that! But characters Y and Z could, they’ve been able to make tough choices for the greater good’ without meaning to say that character X is somehow less or couldn’t make a tough choice for the greater good. Plus how they don’t mention Mack? Very clearly anti Daisy even if you don’t want to see it. There’s a real trend of subtly putting Daisy down, and this is an example of it.

For the ask game, I wish you would write more May whump, more h/c fic for May, May getting comforted by the team, etc. I seem to have a need XD

15, More than just mad skill? :)

15. What did you learn from writing this fic?

More Than Just Mad Skill will always have a special place in my heart because it’s a collection of unrelated and relatively short fics, and prior to hanging out in the philinda fandom I’d had a bad habit of looking at my shorter fics and feeling frustrated that I couldn’t manage to make them any longer. I had no problem reading and loving other people’s ficlets, but it really bothered me that I was apparently capable of fic under 2k only.

Then I posted the first one on tumblr, screaming in terror the entire way because I didn’t actually have any aos friends yet, and people were so kind and lovely about it that I was like “huh…. maybe there’s a niche for this kind of thing?” [That post still has the second highest amount of notes I’ve ever gotten on a fic.]

I’ve gotten a lot more confident in my work because of Mad Skill. I have a better idea of what kind of fic I like to write and what perspectives I can pull off best, and getting feedback from people who liked bits I’d barely even thought about helped reassure me that my ideas of the characters resonated with other people. And on top of that, a lot of those ficlets were just straight up fun to write. I’ve never laughed so hard as when I was writing Form D87-A, and the sheer ridiculousness of Phil and Melinda’s conversation in The Fortune Cookie Game made writing that one an absolute breeze. Even the sad or melancholy ones soothed my unrepentant angst goblin soul.

So basically thank you to the philinda fandom for showering me with love and teaching me to appreciate my own work ❤️
