Only one thing? Jeez. Okay, well — I’m going to say how well you handle Jim in your writing. Because just — he’s not an easy character to portray. People like to simplify him, like to make it seem as though he’s only reckless and womanizing and charming, but he’s not just that. And I can see that in your writing.   "What kind of price did I agree to?" Leonard echoes the question, eyes downcast and trained on his hands, words dull and monotone. He'd been surprised that the price for bringing Jim back hadn't been the trade of his own-- hadn't been a life for a life.

  No, it hadn't been something so simple. The faceless creature he'd dealt with, the thing that he'd spoken to (in action, if not even in words) had demanded one hefty price, in exchange for the safety of Jim's life twice over-- and Leonard had given it, had willingly given it. He knew just as well as anybody else the power of a willing sacrifice.

  When he turned to face Jim, he let him see the trembling in his hands, let him see the way they shook and never managed to stay still. "It didn't ask for anything tangible. Anything simple. Anything straight." He sucks in a deep breath, voice rough with unshed tears. "It wanted talent. Wanted something unique." Leonard's voice goes small and quiet, and he turns back to his hands, tucking them between his thighs, drawing in a shaky breath. "Jim..."
