I've been trying to read up on the health benefits of Quail meat, but it seems to be hard to find. Even though many areas of the world consider Quail to be a delicacy. Here's a bit of information that I did get, and its quite interesting I hope to post soon one about chicken meat as well to give everyone an idea of the differences. I know at least on our homestead we want to make the switch to mostly Quail meat / eggs, however as we grow and learn I hope to one day add more ducks (preferably Muscovy), maybe even goose (since many if not all breeds are heavy grass eaters). the main goal is to grow and raise our own meat, veggies / eggs and dairy for our family of 4 and our dogs (not so much dairy for them), and if we ever find the right one maybe a kitten or two. Not only do I want to raise & grow our own foods but the foods for the animals we're raising as well. Like many the goal is as self-sufficient as possible, but to I'd also love to turn this goal into a career to help others get to where we eventually will be, and to sell our extra's since it would be my / our business we can set the prices, or we can donate. The control to be able to decide if WE donate, or lower prices when needed or give deals etc., will be ours to choose instead of going into work daily to see the prices going up and down every other week leaving low income families to wonder if next week's paycheck will be able to afford eggs, soap, etc. because no one knows what the price is going to be next week, sometimes even the next day.

It’s processing day on the farm. Tony is getting our final orders for Pekin duck ready for customers. It’s a rainy day buy rain or shine the job gets done. My job for today is chopping fat wood or fat lighter for our 3pound bundles. There’s always something to do around here. #duck #ducks #duckprocessing #featherplucker #meatbirds #sustainableliving #farm #farmlife #rural #ruralphotography #photooftheday #fatwood #fatlighter #woodburning #fatwoodbundles #firestarter #firestarters #woodstoves #fireplace #firepit #eatlocal #localfood #farming #poultry #waterfowl #fowl #friendlyfowl #longislandduck #christmasduck #duckbreast (at Morning Glory Homestead) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6bNeEuAYf1/?igshid=xtb6yjtuw8ds
My desk earlier tonight while catching up on our super cool Facebook Group - Pratt Pack! Check it out! Are you part of the group? Anyway ... Hanging with the meat birds after cleaning out the brooder. They are getting big fast. And while we still have awhile, we will need to split them up soon so they have more room. And once feathers grown out we will put on pasture. #homestead #PrattPack #meatbirds #meatchickens #cornishcross #2019PFmeatchickens https://www.instagram.com/p/B0-K31DgeMQ/?igshid=1f103goarj37w
Some of us have guys who roll their eyes 🙄 when we bring home more chicks 🐥. And some of us have guys fluent in chicken math (🐥+🐥+🐥= eleventy-seven), and when he go to the farm store and find they didn’t sell all the chicks (meat birds) from 2 weeks ago when we bought ours, AND they are ONLY $1 ea...he buys them...ALL!! Ok, just for clarification, they were only 7 of them left. We are 7 closer to my goal of Sunday chicken dinners!! We may not make it all 53 Sunday’s, but we are a bit closer. #destinedforfreezercamp #growyourown #meatbirds #hiskindoflunchbox (at Timberwolf Farm and Feed LLC) https://www.instagram.com/mistymeadowshomestead/p/BwVb4LUlnmd/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18m8b8o29rb51
