Eastern card game shows: just playing the game. Average tournament story style, with the series being a gateway into actually learning the game. At worst, what they play is so similar that you still get a feel for the game.

Western card game shows: Cool, radical stereotypes that are trapped in an alternate world and befriend these highly marketable mystic creatures, while receiving some awesome magical powers in order to defeat the big bad, who is doing pretty much the same thing. It has absolutely nothing to do with how the game is actually played. Yes we like Digimon, how is that relevant?

You ever wonder what it feels like to be in a toy/game based cartoon?

Like, you sign up for a tournament for fun, but then you get paired up against some guy with neon hair and ridiculous clothes, who then pulls out some secret combo or a forbidden move, and you get your shit wrecked in the first round. What do you even do at that point, you’re just fodder in order to make someone else look cool.

I’d just quit, what’s even the point afterwards? Is there even a point in trying again?
