i prefer to celebrate my bias over lingering on the negatives, but i do feel the need to at least acknowledge that like.
prism's design being incredibly sexualized to the point of resembling fetishwear (love this btw) while also being 1) the only woman on the Z-Team who doesn't want to fuck robert 2) the only character any of the writers felt the need to assure us Wasn't fucking her synergy partner 3) is one of the few characters who didn't get a promotional valentine on the official discord server 4) the only main cast member apart from golem who didn't get a prequel comic (dont love any of that)
... is, sorry, kind of giving, "this character is inherently sexual, but fundamentally unfuckable. suitable to be made a sexual object, but not the object of one's romantic desires." ):
and with chase's endless sex jokes (very fun) wrapped up in a speculative motive of sexual frustration stemming from erectile dysfunction (ordinarily fun to me as a writing challenge, but here i have Complicated feelings abt it), a similar effect is achieved: inherently sexual, fundamentally unfuckable. and also he and robert have that fictive kinship thing going on? so just like the taboo surrounding flambae x prism, the scary specter of pseudo-incest is a significant deterrent to anyone who might otherwise be thinking about shipping chase and robert.
like. tell me why we are two for two now on sexed up AND neutered black characters. i feel like a crazy person?? and i can't tell if coupé escaped this treatment just because she doesn't speak Black American English, or because she was the darling and favorite of one of the lead writers.
and obviously all that isn't going to stop me because i am built different and the taboo makes it hotter. duh. but once you notice it you're kind of like...
damn. okay, adhoc...
if they do end up doing a season 2 i hope they do better by the black characters next time around, lmao
