Just a medical rant, nbd and no need to read I, just need to get it out there so I don’t think about it over and over for hours. Tumblr is the place I can out it where my parents and family won’t see it.
I am...so, /so/ tired of being treated like an idiot when it comes to my medical conditions by medical professionals.
It’s just...so exhausting. My pain is trivialised, my anxiety is invalidated, my knowledge about my conditions is played down and it doesn’t help that the whole reason I even have to go to the hospital is because I feel like absolute garbage in the first place!
I’d much rather go to my specialists in Melbourne where I will get treated properly and with a more respectful way of care. Unfortunately, if I want to go there, it’ll be a one and a half hour car drive and in the state I was in I would not have made it that far without much more serious consequences.
I don’t like the dinky small-time local hospital where half the staff don’t even know what my condition is, let alone the first thing about treating the related issues that come with ut and if I could choose not to go there, I wouldn’t at all. They cannot provide adequate care when they do not have the appropriate level of knowledge about my condition. That’s not shade, or meant to be mean, that’s just fact.
I am so tired of still feeling like I have to be polite when I get treated like that, too. I am so over trying to be helpful and be the “educated patient” when it gets met with passive aggression and indignance, as if I should just shut up and let them “save me” without question or request.
My knowledge about my body is not a threat to anyone’s medical training, nor should it be! I should be able to tell someone I have shit veins, and they say “ok, we’ll take that into account, thanks,” not, “oh, well we’ll just see about that, won’t we?” as if it’s up to one single nurse or doctor to decide, condescendingly, whether or not what I tell them is true. I know my veins. I live with them. And one try by one doctor to get a line in my arm is absolutely not going to give an accurate picture of what they are like to deal with constantly.
It would just be nice to be treated like a person and not just a patient, that’s all.
Rant over. Sorry, it’s long. I just need this for myself right now.
