Medieval Dragon lore dump (with some Arthuriana). Lol at Deodatus who reported his 'heroic deeds' to his Order as the local Muslims circulated another, less flattering, version of events. Anyway, I always wondered what they were actually doing when they said they were slaying a Dragon? This doesn't clear that particular mystery up btw, they were all very adamant Dragons existed and they had definitely slayed them. But could be a good reason for Hansry to go off on their own for a while, spend a few months 'hunting a Dragon', come back and say they'd slayed the Dragon.

Drawloween day 3: The Amphisbaena is an ant eating dragon with a head on each end of its body. It was born from Medusa's dripping blood and if cut in two, the pieces will join together again. It can roll around by locking its jaws together in a loop and Medieval folk believed that eating its meat would attract a lover and wearing it like a necklace would assure a healthy pregnancy.

I was looking up stuff about medieval fertility for my Arthuriana and found a Thesis... by someone from my old university! It was such a joy to see!

So it's called The Medieval Pregnancy Test: Diagnosing Pregnancy and Predicting the Child’s Sex in Later Medieval Europe and it's by Zosia Edwards.

I even remember the supervisor Peregrine Horden well!

And now I know that mugwort was used for promoting conception.

And hares, which I already knew, but apparently pig was also of use.

Also "the balloke of An old cocke"... childish but I still sniggered at that.
