I've been posting up fanart I put here on Twitter but wherever I go to express most my thoughts, it's not going to be there.
Here's the thing. Normally, I disagree that the medium something is expressed in is inherently an issue. Some novels are not that deep, to the point where some television shows are much deeper (and I say this as an avid reader who has a great love of the written word). And certainly text online is not necessarily any less deep than words written on a dead tree.
However.
When you impose arbitrary character limits on posts, you by nature promote speech of a sound-bytey sort. Now, this can make clever people sound pithy, but by definition, it limits your ability to add nuance to your statements. It's also a nightmare for conversation, so it's no wonder discussions on Twitter on any reasonably serious subject would tend to quickly devolve into screaming matches where each party battles for who is the most quotable. Suffice to say I'm unlikely to engage in much political discussion (or even political monologuing) on Twitter due to what I believe to be inherent limitations of the format.
