no offense to Mednafen emulator fans but my Zero Divide: The Final Conflict stream was the first 3D Saturn game I streamed through Mednafen and it looks like garbage. I had this problem once things piped through OBS when I first used Yaba Sanshiro til I found a setting to keep pixels from smearing all over the place and that's why that's been my preferred Saturn emulator (and some decent upscale options, I can't find a way to make 3D Saturn games look better on Mednafen), but YS's issue is there's some games it straight up won't boot up like ZD and the case of Burning Rangers extrrreeemeley slowed down with garbled audio. I'll keep messing around with this stuff though, being I've played Saturn games the same way all my life and been excited to use emulation instead to see how to make them look the way DuckStation improves PS1 games.
Playing Water Margin: A Tale of Clouds and Wind from Steam, in my own installation of emulator Mednafen: I copied the "game" file from the "res" folder where Steam installed it, renamed it to an .md file, since it's a Mega Drive game ROM : ), zipped it, and ran it with Mednafen.
Thanks @lunaticobscurity for pointing it out! Also they reviewed the Taiwanese Mega Drive bootleg it came from, in 2009: http://lunaticobscurity.blogspot.com/2009/05/shui-hu-feng-yun-zhuan-mega-drive.html
Comparisons between Mednafen and the Kronos core on RetroArch. Mednafen is on top and looks very much like how the game looks on an actual Sega Saturn. The bottom one is Kronos, which has options to upscale the graphics.
Kronos looks great, but it has a few minor issues. There’s a couple of graphical glitches I’ve run across. Also sometimes the characters’ voices glitch out. The Guardian Dragon boss music also sounds a bit off.
