American Girl: Meet Kit (2000)
Story: Valerie Tripp -- Art: Walter Rane
First day out of the box and already stealing some other girl's entire outfit.
Welcome to the dollhouse, Kit.
And thank you to the defa lucy doll that provided this outfit.
So, because I was saving up to move out into my own apartment last year, I didn’t really participate in the ‘baby boom’ of 2020 doll tumblr. But now that I’m in my own place and have a steady budget once again, I thought it was about time to hunt down the next doll I wanted to add to my collection. And the first day I started looking, on the first site I tried (Mercari, and what a great first experience with it!) I not only found Kit Kittredge (child-me’s favorite character for quite a few years and was the next on my list of ‘dolls I want’), but Kit in a lot with Grace and her scooter as well!
I never would’ve sought them out on their own, but with the bundled price (plus a few extra things the seller ended up combining into a single listing for me to get at a discount—they were really great!), I just couldn’t pass up! And Kit’s in such great shape, her hair is perfect, there’s one little mark on her leg that, even if it doesn’t come off, honestly looks like a freckle (and doesn’t even show up on camera), and a faint line on her cloth body that the clothing will always cover.
I couldn’t be happier with my find, and I’m so glad that Kit is finally here to joining my girls in the nook! (And, as a bonus: when it comes to the ‘dress like your doll’ challenge, Kit’s outfit is honestly pretty close to what I wear in the spring time on the days I feel like dressing up a little and wearing a skirt!)
The prototype of Kit Kittredge, versus what ended up going to market.
I'm fat and cute and im sorry for those who can't handle it
Kit Kittredge, from the American Girl series of her name (Meet Kit, etc.), is autistic. She doesn't like "flouncy" girly things (I can relate), is obsessed with baseball, Amelia Earhart, and journalism, and disregards the social norms against being a journalist as a girl. (Full name Margaret Mildred Kittredge, but nobody ever uses that.)
Ruthie: Why are you staring at me?
Stirling: I don't know. It's just that... it's like you escaped from a Hallmark card or something.
Ruthie: Is that a bad thing?
