u were joking about preferring evil mike but im dead serious. if mike wheeler is being homophobic, a bad friend, a misogynist, and disrespectful to his gfs cop dad on my screen at least he’s showing an emotion🙂
like at least he shows depth and you can understand his actions. there is subtext to be analyzed. meanwhile s5 mike does not even have TEXT 😭😭😭
#there are ways to write a 'narrator' character but this was not the way to do it.#and by narrator i mean like. you know how richard papen narrates the secret history and is technically a charactre in the story but really#his only purpose is to explain the events of the story as they are unfolding to him . and obviously richard plays a role but he is kind of#a bystander in the sense that nothing advertently happens to him#and mike is kind of similar to him Tome because nothing supernatural advertently affects Him but he kind of serves as the thread#that ties everything together and connects everyone w everyone else. and with him being a storyteller i always got the impression that#his purpose in the story was essentially to narrate it#but like with richard in tsh him being a bystander actually shows in his CHARACTER and THAT is his fatal flaw#he feels powerless and corrupted because he let all these people walk all over him and he was technically a constituent in everything#but not really. he was there but he kind of wasn't. like a ghost#and I feel like you could have explored mike this way and they kind of DID with him feeling powerless last season#like having him being insecure abt the fact thta el and everyone else has all these epic. traits and hes just There#and they could have spun that storyline on it's heels and have mike trying to reclaim his role in the story this season#and fulfilling his 'leader' role#BUT HE DIDNT EVEN DO THAT.
