hey! I was wondering if you could write something about toji? Iv always thought he was such a lover boi bc like what do you mean he loved her so much he kept her name even after she died..
okay so
1. we know megumi and tsumiki are NOT blood related
2. “fushiguro” is TSUMIKI’S MOM’S surname, not megumi’s mom’s surname
this means toji was toji zen’in his entire life. when megumi was born, when he was with megumi’s mom, and after she died. his name was still toji zen’in. why? because shiu called him zen’in before toji corrected him, and we know shiu was in toji’s life even before megumi was born because he later helped with the kid.
megumi says in a panel: “my dad and tsumiki’s mom got married when i was in first grade, then left.” so megumi is testifying that toji married tsumiki’s mom, this is the wife toji talks about in the panel with shiu.
so toji took on tsumiki’s mom’s surname, he didn’t take on megumi’s mom’s surname.
i’d say the reason he decided to take tsumiki’s mom’s surname was because during this period, i believe toji was genuinely trying not to change completely, but trying to figure out: “what can i do to make my son’s life better with the capabilities i have as a fucked up man?”
not saying toji was the perfect father (ive spoken about this before) but i believe he married tsumiki’s mom because he wanted to create a family for megumi. megumi didn’t have that because toji saw how hard it was to raise him alone. he wanted megumi to have that family structure.
and he didn’t want megumi to carry the burden of the zen’in name. i think this is huge for understanding toji’s character. the story would be completely different if megumi was “megumi zen’in”, don’t you think? just the name zen’in carries a massive burden which toji was painfully aware of because he suffered his whole life as toji zen’in.
so i believe toji married tsumiki’s mom, changed his surname, to give megumi a family AND to protect him from the zen’in name. as i’ve said before in my previous post he was trying, in his fuckedup way, to save his son from the curse he lived under.
