LIGHTNING CONCERT 4
Mehdi Aminian and Pouyan Kheradmand October 13th, 2019, 6pm, boarding starts 4pm Ship without Sea: Lützowgasse 14, Ebene 8, 1140 Vienna Mehdi Aminian (Vocal, Setar, Ney) and Pouyan Kheradmand (Santur, Setar) will take us to a musical journey across the horizon on the ancient lands of Iran. Their musical repertoire holds arrangements of Iranian traditional songs with original compositions and a touch of improvisation. The crystalline sound of the Santur, the melodic sound of the Ney and the plucking of the Setar bring us the echoes of remote stories with soft and distant contours that have their roots in the Iranian culture. These stories narrate traditions, prayers, poems that are handed over the centuries, from mouth to mouth and memories kept alive by the people.

Mehdi Aminian was born in Iran. Mehdi’s musical inception in Persian Music and Ney in particular goes back to his adolescence which he spent in Iran. As he was to discover later, leaving his home country at the age of 16 provided an ever-growing awareness for experimenting within some of the oldest musical traditions of the world. His fascination with Sufi literature and poetry as well as the various musical projects he had while living in Europe and South East Asia, inspired Mehdi to shape a unique style of his own in his music and compositions, rising above the confinements of one particular genre. Moreover, not only does he aim to bring a full musical experience to the public, but also to unfold that genuine, almost ancestral connection we all have with sound. Besides, he has dedicated the past ten years to developing and implementing international music and research projects within the Association “Roots Revival” which he founded in 2013. These projects are at the confluence of Humanities and Musical Traditions in the process of establishing a dialogue between different musical traditions around the world.
Pouyan Kheradmand is a virtuoso santur, setar and gheychak-bass player and an expert on Persian music and maqam. He received lessons from Mohammad Alaei, Siamak Aghaei, Vafa Adib, PhD. Vahi vafaee ….
