So I just finished season one of The Apothecary Diaries and I absolutely LOVE MAOMAO, so much so I decided she shouldn't be alone in the stupid palace, so I've given her two new friends! So this is gonna be a wee lil infodump on my AU so far!

My two most beloved OCs for this show(i have four so far), Shenlei a seamstress and warrior from the Lu Clan(a tribe of male huntershousewives and female warriors) who is also the current best friend of Jinshi and in the right clothing an almost dead ringer for him as well as former Pure Consort Ah Duo(there's rumors in my AU, mainly in Maomao's circle, that Ah Duo has Lu Clan blood, Lu Clan isn't just one family after all) and Meilan the ever exotic royal chef to the consorts(specifically Lishu due to Meilan's european inspired cooking being so flavorful and yet free of any foods Lishu cannot consume) and Maomao's "beloved older sister".

Maomao, Shenlei and Lakan are known among the palace as "The Emperor's Three Wise Advisors" while Maomao, Shenlei and Meilan are known by an unofficial title "The Emperor's Three Maidens" due to the fact they are three women who are favored by the emperor on a similar level as the Four Consorts while being in a similar situation as Lady Lishu, three women he adores yet has never looked at pervertedly and would never dare to touch, even going as far as to actively protect their purity until the day they're ready to settle with a good man of the court they've come to love(he's hoping that for one of them that man will be Jinshi, any of them would be a suitable future empress in this age of change).

Shenlei belongs to the Lu Clan and her origin is mysterious, anyone will tell you how she saved Jinshi and Maomao and was asked to enter the palace but rarely does anyone know her history, how her older twin brother snuck her into battle with him, disguised as a 17 year old soldier, while they were just 14 years old and how his strength and her strategy got them through countless wars until the one war that he didn't bring her with, she arrived only to hear his dying breath and since then has served whatever alliance she's had with utter loyalty, a grand strategist, a wise advisor, but at the end of the day, a warrior.(Due to the fact I've written about her before her segment is rather short)

Meilan is a strange case, you see a secret both the madam of the Verdegris house(I apologize if I didn't spell it right) and the Apothecary Luomen shared was that Fengxian had given birth to two children but sadly only one survived, or so they thought, after disposing of the body the woman who was taking care of burning the deceased bodies heard a baby crying, the poor child was simply not awake so soon after birth and so the woman kept her and raised her under the name Meilan, or well that's the story Meilan told the madam when she arrived there. When Maomao came to see what the old hag wanted she was face to face with a girl identical to her in every single aspect besides hair color, a deep black color, but sharing the exact same face and eyes, and it was rather shocking to say the least- Maomao was forced to take in Meilan while the situation was investigated on her identity and throughout the time they spent together Maomao grew a sort of bond with the girl to the point where when asked if she wished to hear the results of the investigation she denied on the grounds that Meilan was her sister and she didn't wish to risk the possibility of hearing something she wouldn't like.

So in Mulan 2, Mulan is hired as a body guard for 3 princesses who are to go on to a political marriage, Mulan wishes the girls had the choice to do what they feel makes them happy, which speaks to all of them but specially Mei who is really touchy and sweet with Mulan."

When the eunuch at the entrance gate announced that, a number of heads turned around towards the door, including Mei herself.

Mulan came dressed spectacularly, donning a dark green outer robe embroidered with golden flower and fire patterns at the hems of the sleeves, collars and skirt, with two simple layers underneath showing red and white respectively. A red cape draped over her back and fully covered her right shoulder, a straight pin and small crown secured her topknot, and a jade tassel hung on her waist. Elegant, classy, but not too bold or flashy.

Author’s notes:

I’ve written a very self-indulgent work for Mulan x Mei in like, two nights.

There will be eventual smut, but that will only happen in the next chapter (currently it’s categorised as “Not Rated”).

The rest of the cast includes both animated and live action characters, but they make appearances in the first chapter only. This is still very much a Mulan & Mei fic.

More tags and detailed notes (plus a background story for this canon-divergent universe) can be found in the fic itself.

Oh yeah, Mulan is disabled here (she lost an arm in battle) and a butch and a war general. Mei is now the Emperor of China.

The timeline takes place about 8 years after Mulan 2′s events, so many characters have changed over time, but I hope my writing still manages to capture them as the same characters that we recognise and love.
