Be My Ride or Die BFF || Meivee

A lot had changed in the past few weeks. Vee was beyond thankful that one thing had not changed—she still had friends who stood by her side and treated her no differently. Especially Mei.

This was a good thing for too many reasons, a few being, one, it was a comfort having her best friend around just like always. And two, Vee and her family had decided they would not be chased out of town by a few misguided, hateful individuals. She was going to stay and fight, but to do that, she would need the support of her friends.

She had written a petition, you see, and she needed to get as many signatures as possible before submitting it to the board for consideration. She was confident her best friend would sign. 

But there would be time for that later! First, Vee had a promise to keep. Now that the weather had turned for the better and the icy sludge had melted away from the walkways, she was meeting Mei at the park for her first skateboard lesson. It was so exciting! Vee loved to skate and having Mei learn to skate would be a blast! And a welcome distraction from her depressing drama.

Seeing her friend waiting ahead on the walkway, Vee waved with a grin, cringing inwardly at a couple that skittered away from her like frightened rabbits, leaving the sidewalk and walking on the grass to give her a wide berth. She tried to ignore it and kept smiling as she approached her friend and offered her a hug in greeting. “Hey Mei! Ahhh! I’m so glad we can finally do this! We’ll have you skating like a pro in no time!”

On a Scale of 1 to 10 || Meivee

Was there any better cure for post breakup blues than shopping? 

Seriously, Mei had been so down since her breakup with Tae, and Vee was determined to fix that! So, of course, a girls afternoon in NTO was absolutely in order!

They had taken the train and gotten milkshakes—well, Mei had gotten a milkshake at Vee’s insistence even though Vee couldn’t drink one herself. Vee was not about to let her human friend go hungry just because of her own stupid dietary restrictions.

Once that was settled, it was time to shop! Vee loved shopping for clothes and trinkets and sparkly things in general, but she also LOVED people watching. She also knew that Mei was very boy crazy, so she tried to distract her by pointing out boys she thought were cute and rating them on a scale of 1 to 10. 

“Ok, what about that one?” she said with a giggle, pointing to a tall guy dressed hipster style, complete with beanie and slim jeans, a skateboard slung over his shoulder. “Decent taste in fashion, nice build and he has a skateboard. So cool! I give him at least a 7—maybe an 8.”

Tell Me Everything! || Meivee

Vee marched down the basement stairs, platter of cookies in hand, beyond happy that things were back to normal in the Hauntley home. There was no longer a feral vampire living in the basement, which also no longer smelled like something died—her mom had dutifully disinfected the whole manor with bleach daily to try and keep the b&b guests from noticing anything during those dark days. 

The best part was that Mei hadn’t been scared away by her near miss with Robbie and the potion and had come over to hang out! Honestly, Vee considered that the true test of their friendship. The fact that she had faced off against an angry vampire in this very basement and still didn’t consider her kind to be monsters made Vee understand that she had found a true friend. That was kind of a big deal to her.

“Look!” Vee chirped happily, holding out the cookies like they were a valuable treasure, “I come bearing gifts!” She zipped across the basement to where Mei waited on the sofa and set the plate down with a flourish and a grin before plopping down on the other end of the couch, criss crossing her legs. 

“Help yourself!” she encouraged before crossing her eyes and leveling her friend with an expectant look as she changed the subject. “Now. Tell me everything I missed while I was away on big brother guard duty. I want to hear it all!”

The Other Side of Me | Meivee

Vee was so glad the fundraiser was over—she'd been excited about it, but her close call involving her lapse of control had shook her. She was fine now, but the feeling she'd almost hurt Jenny really bothered her. It had even made her question her suitability to be involved in the play at all.

For now she would continue as planned and take extra precautions to ensure that it wouldn't happen again. Honestly, Vee was too excited to turn back now. She was Cosette! Not the biggest role, but still an important one.

But she also felt a little guilty because a lot of other awesome people didn't get a major role. People she thought had done a wonderful job and deserved a big role just as much if not more than she did.

Like Mei. She would have made an amazing Cosette! Or any of the roles really. She was confident and really pretty and Vee thought her audition had gone really well, yet somehow she'd gotten a minor role.

In spite of the disappointing results, Mei had been very nice about it, even going so far as to offer to help Vee learn her lines. Which was what they were doing now.

School had just ended and they were to meet up in the courtyard. Spotting Mei in the parting crowd, Vee grinned and waved excitedly.

"Mei!" She ran over to her friend, tossing her book bag on a nearby bench and offering a quick hug, "I can't thank you enough for offering to help me out! This is my first theater experience and I really don't want to mess it up!"

A Friendly Face | Meivee

Vee preferred to look on the bright side of any situation. But after centuries of repeating the same cycle over and over again? It was sometimes hard. And today was no different. Sure, it was a new day and a new school but the same old story. Vee was starting high school. Again.

On the bright side, at least she wasn’t doomed to go ALL the way back to the beginning. She was starting lower sixth form, which was kind of in the middle.

But. Vee sighed as she remembered that there were still hours of the same old history lessons, English lessons, calculus...these things never changed.

On the bright side, at least she would get to meet new people. Vee loved meeting new people. There were so many potential new friends just waiting to be found!

But. A small shiver of panic fluttered through her. What if nobody liked her? What if she couldn’t find a single friend? What if they found out her secret before getting to know her and she had run away? Again!

Ugh. This is no way to start a new life, Vee reprimanded herself. Shoving the fear aside, she adjusted her backpack strap and looked hopefully up at the brick building looming before her, watching the students milling about before classes started for the day.

She was so distracted she startled when her name being squealed from behind her broke into her conflicted thoughts. Whirling around, her face broke into a wide smile at the sight of a friendly face. She’d met this girl just the other day. Met her and had even texted with her a few times since then. How could she have forgotten?

“Oh my gosh! Mei!!!” Vee cried out, bouncing in excitement as she gave her new friend a quick hello hug, “You have no idea how glad I am to see you!”
