The whole finale and the Poppy storyline would've been so so much better if she was Ruby's. Like sure, Ruby's a little young for motherhood, but Ruby's whole story arc is about babies! We first meet her trying to save a baby she just met! She loved the original Space Babies!Poppy! And, most glaringly, The Doctor and Ruby got called Mummy and Daddy by that Poppy, and The Doctor literally said "I wish we were".
And, if Ruby was in Belinda's role in that two parter, Mel, the one companion who canonically has a photographic memory, could be the one person who remembers things no-one else does? Which would both make more sense and wouldn't involve hiring Bonnie Langford just to have her do absolutely nothing??
What on earth went wrong behind the scenes. And why did Belinda have to take the brunt of it.

People are saying a lot about Ruby's mother being dramatic when she put on a big black cloak and pointed ominously at a lamppost, but I would also like to give some points to Rose, who, while everyone else was crumpled on the floor, apparently decided to die in the most elegant position she could. Seriously, you have Mel:
