DOCTOR WHO | The Christmas Invasion
One of my favourite topics in the doctor who fandom is the Doctorification of companions and how it often leads to their endings.
The Doctor needs a companion, that is a fact.
They can’t travel alone, it’s twists them, they need someone to stop them, to steady them. That’s where the companions come in. The problem is the doctor is addicting the more time the companions spend with him the more they become him, they start acting more recklessly and overestimating their abilities and their capability to always survive, because ,hey if they doctor can leap straight into battle with nothing but his wits and a sonic screwdriver, so can they.
They start losing that part of their humanity that tells them to feel scared, to not just leap into battle as if they are invincible because they are not, They are human, they can die, they are not invincible and while they can get close they can never be exactly like him.
And the worst part is, I think he likes it, when they become more like him when he is just about to have someone who fully understands him because they are just like him but then he loses them.
They change themselves to the point that they are no longer, what he needs, a human companion to steady him because at the end of the day the doctor doesn’t need someone exactly like him, he needs someone to steady him and to stop him.
Donna said it best he needs someone to stop him and the second the doctorification hits its peak the companion is no longer that and can no longer serve their narrative purpose. the dynamic is bound to get toxic and codependant and it will cause their "deaths".

Hello Tumblr!!!!!!!!! new here so I'll be posting some old-ish art
It's 10 in 9's clothes appreciation post

People trying to disrespect Rose Tyler by comparing her to other companions and how they would slap/scream and argue with the doctor always makes me laugh.
Because what they are trying to imply is that Rose was somehow silly, naive and unable to assert herself as a companion and that this somehow makes her not a good match with the doctor.
But... the reason we don't get scenes like that with Rose is because he treats her very, very well so there is literally no need for her to do all that. First of all, it's not like Rose never stands up to the doctor, she does. It's just that she has never needed to be agressive towards him for him to respect and listen to her. He has always made her his top priority.
You can love his dynamic with other companions but this remains a fact. He has never played mind games with her, he doesnt ignore her and when they do argue he resolves it quickly.
I love Clara (and yes, I ship whouffaldi) but he would never put Rose through what he put Clara on that one moon episode.
He burned up a son to say goodbye to Rose and meanwhile completly ignored Rivers consciousness after uploading her to the library.
If they didnt get separated the doctor would stay with her till she died of old age. It would hurt. But he'd do it. He even said he would never leave her like he did with his other companions... with no hesitation at that.
The only exception is the girl in the fireplace episode which is so stupid and pointless I dont even consider it canon.
Shoutout to this underrated Ninerose moment. It shows how in tune they are on their FIFTH adventure (EU included- according to TARDIS wiki). Because Rose does have abandonment trauma with the way Jimmy Stone treated her. And Nine is just so totally in tune with it, he gives her a TARDIS key THIS early. And without hesitation! He says it’s about time she had one!
According to my count snooping through the TARDIS wiki, it was often taking up to 49 adventures for the Doctor would give a pre Rose companion a key. The average was 23! The total average ended up being similar at 21.1. So, it’s just absolutely insane in the most beautiful way that Nine gives her this key the second Rose is anxious about him leaving.
