Ok, so this week I’m writing about a project very very close to my heart!
About 4 or 5 years ago now, I did a little spot for MTV adverts with a legend producer. She then text me one day being all “Hey, come be an extra on my mates shoot.” I was like “ummmm yes!!!!” It turned out to be one of the best things I EVER did.
Nick and Stu came up with a killer idea for a web series. What if scientists dissected films to see what made them tick? They made a panel of high end scientist characters who pull out a film idea of choice and see how it would relate to the real world. Not only was the concept funny and awesome. But those boys worked their tails off to make it happen. (PS: Kate don’t think I don’t know how much you would have put into this sucker... Behind every great man as they say...)
So in their series I am the only girl in a team of 4, with 3 boys. Which meant that if Nic’s lady Kate was not on set... I was the only female... Warning: Boys don’t know girls need a physical toilet when filming on location! Little tip from me to you ladies...
I was originally cast as an extra in one of the eps. However a great actress by the name of Rachel Howard who was the lead female called Susan, had decided to start a family and so they asked me to step up and take the torch. (This is only fun if you know the lady you are taking over from sucks at acting... Rachel is NOT one of these actresses... I was packing it hard!!!)
Nic and Stu had a very hard run in front of them. With low budgets and crowd funding on the bare minimum. There were so many reasons to give up. But they never said die. We had rain, and cancellations. Set issues with approvals and crazy actors given permission for creativity. It was a perfect disaster. But the boys stayed on. So did Kate... I think a lesser woman would have been like... “Ummmm babe... No!” But Kate was like, “ohhh yeah, that’s my man!”
Once we finally got the footage for the 3 episodes in the can (An ongoing process of over 2 years, including re-shoots and hair continuity issues cause Heather decided to do a great blow wave during the WETTEST SYDNEY WEATHER WE’D SEEN IN YEARS.) It was time to edit. In the mean time the guys went on with other work, Playing with the series every chance they got. The music, special effects, undies on the outside... All the things.
Anyway, if you check out their site you’ll see what they’ve worked on previously. My favourite through line for the boys is this: Life is hilarious.
