WHY IS THIS SO FUNNY!?
Been playing games to relax to from my back catalog. Grandia 2 from the HD collection definitely feels like it's done enough to be satisfying to play through even if I enjoyed 1 a lot more in terms of story and character pacing for me.
But it has "Demonically Possessed body horror JRPG Edgelord Brother Villian" character and his appearance and battle animations eased my brainrot so much this weekend. Once again 2000s gaming design choices has my back in my trying times.
FFxivWrite Entry #2: Sway
FFxivWrite 2020 Prompt #2: Sway A mask can hide a stranger, but a friend it can’t disguise so well. The Midlander’s icy blue eyes scanned the faceless crowd, watching and searching. Couples danced, groups mingled, and wallflowers maintained their silent vigils along the margins. One figure stood out amongst the masquerading masses; tall, dark, and regal; horned and tailed and scaled. The mask, of course, she knew as well as his face, but she could have recognized him without the sight of either. Setting her soon to be forgotten drink aside, she weaved her way through the attendees, striding up to the gentleman who’d caught her eye. Between her telltale pale visage, her poise, and the plump, pink lips that curled into that alluring smile as she greeted him, any who knew Faye Covington would need not think twice about her identity, the ivory half mask she wore concealing next to nothing of her being. “Good evening, sir,” she chimed in a voice as melodic as the music permeating the ballroom. “Care to dance?” She’d already decided his answer before he’d had a chance to respond, a gloved hand extending confidently toward him. “Who am I to deny the lady’s wishes? But of course, my dear,” the lowness of his smooth voice still could not disguise the sound of a smile, his much larger hand taking hers within, and the two staked out to find an empty spot on the dance floor where they turned to face each other. He clasped her hand with his, her left arm draping over his shoulders with some difficulty thanks to his impressive height and his arm coiling around her waist to press his free hand against the small of her back. One, two, three - the notes of the waltz carried its rhythm, and their feet began to glide gracefully across the marble floor in the steps of the dance as they slowly twirled about and he guided her into the motions she already knew by nature. All the busyness and chatter around them was forgotten as she gazed up at him and the peek of violet eyes through the holes of his mask, and his arm curled tighter around her midsection to pull her closer to him, body to body as they swayed to the music. She eased into him, leaning her head forward to rest it upon his shoulder and allowing her eyes to close. “I like you better without the mask, you know,” she uttered quietly, her voice barely carrying over the swell of the instruments that played. “I know.” But at least with a mask, anyone could be a different person, if only for a night. @of-darkness-and-dreams

Entry #14: Convincing
FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge Prompt #14: Wit Possible Triggers: Implied violence “Mister Vainchelon,” Faye cooed as she stepped into the free company’s holding room, closing and securing the door behind herself after shooing away the concerned guards posted outside. It was his usual mealtime, and she carried the tray of food in her hands. “I believe I’ve found a solution to our problems,” she began as she set the tray upon the nearby desk, making her way toward the door of cell. “You see, the Primarch has a very singular mind. It’s obvious he won’t settle for any punishment less than death, but I still need you around. However, if you simply escape, he will not cease trying to pursue you, and that’s not good for anyone. Though, if he thinks you’re dead... there’s nothing left for him to pursue, is there?” her icy blue eyes peered in at the Midlander through the bars of the cell door, like a predator sizing up her prey. “An attack from a company member would be too messy to stage,” she continued, unhooking the collection of jingling keys from her belt and flipping through them until she found the key to the cell door. “But if one of those Void beasts from the terrible magicks you dabble in were to burst in here and attack you, well... there would be no one for us to blame, would there?” as she posed the question, she slid the key into the hole, unlocking the door to the cell and tugging it open. “An unlikely event, of course, but something someone as dense as Primarch Vensar could believe, with proper evidence.” She removed her gloves from each hand and stowed them carefully away into her pockets, though when she withdrew her hands, the right held an ornate looking dagger, its sharpened blade glistening in the dim light of the room. “But there would have to be a terrible amount of blood.” Her pink lips curled into a sly grin. “We’ll just have to make this look... convincing.” ( @of-darkness-and-dreams )
Entry #8: Shadows
FFxiv 30 Day Writing Challenge Prompt #8: Shadows She crept into the study where she knew she would find him, lingering in the shadows of the doorway as she watched him work, dark visage blending in perfectly in the dim edges of the room--or would have, were it not for all that sparkling, golden jewelry catching the light. His nose was buried in some book, several books and papers strewn across his desk. He’d been at it for suns now, and she was growing quite bored. He was her primary source of entertainment, after all, especially since she’d been discouraged from stirring up trouble. Shadiyah made her way toward his desk, footsteps silent save for the soft jingle of jewelry with each footfall or shift of her shapely hips. He did not notice her presence, or at least showed no sign of it if he did, his attention still resting entirely on the tome he perused, his features set in grim determination. “Master,” she greeted when she had reached his side, stepping behind his chair and leaning forward to drape an arm over his shoulders, peering at the pages of his book. “Mm?” was his only response, not even bothering to lift his purple eyes from the text to regard the Miqo’te. She pressed her painted lips into a frown, arms crossing over her ample chest. “You have been working long enough. It is time to take a break,” she spoke in her usual low, sultry drawl. He gave a subtle shake of his head, sending his black locks swaying to and fro. “I am busy, my dear.” Between the smooth deepness of his voice and everything about his appearance, from his towering height to those black horns and scales, or that piercing gaze, one might have found him quite fearsome. His wife, unfortunately did not. She wasn’t one to take “no” for an answer, scowling at his reply. She slipped around him, gracefully climbing atop his desk and seating herself in the very middle, heedlessly lounging atop all the papers and books--including the one he’d been trying to read. Maybe Miqo’te really were just overgrown housecats? She struck a seductive pose upon the desk, dark blue eyes narrowing upon Melfice’s face. “Pay attention to me,” she demanded. He knew he hadn’t any other choice. He sighed. ( @shadiyah-ffxiv, @of-darkness-and-dreams )
