Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken: Magnificent and Dangerous Women of House Nymeros Martell — 20/20.
Arianne is the eldest daughter and the heiress of Doran Martell, the ruling Prince of Dorne, and his consort, Lady Mellario of the Free City of Norvos, and sister of Quentyn and Trystane Martell.
Arianne is calculating, adventurous, and fierce-tempered. When she sees something she desires, she strives to obtain it at all cost. She does not shy away from using her looks to get what she wants, nor from seducing men to get them to do her bidding, occasionally granting sexual favors in this context. Arianne considers handsome men her one great weakness, in particular when they have an air of adventure and the forbidden.
@delrosariorg got me thinking about Mellario of Norvos. So now that the crazy time at work is over, here is a Mellario fic. *** The bells rang and brightly dressed people danced in the streets, much like on one fateful day many years ago, but Mellario’s world has turned dark, barren, and soundless. My Quentyn, my beloved son. Mellario struggled to breathe, as hear head spun.
“My lady,” her maid exclaimed, trying to hold Mellario from falling, but she writhed out of the woman’s hands. My Quentyn, my beloved son.
She remembered cradling him when he was born and a sudden sense of foreboding that clenched her heart the moment she laid eyes upon him.
“I am so scared, I could not bear to lose our son,” she confided in Doran.
“No harm will come to him,” Doran promised her. Liar.
When her lord husband sent Quentyn to squire for lord Yronwood, she thought that was the loss that her intuition has warned her about. Disgusting, barbaric custom of paying one’s debts with one’s own children, surely no good could come of it.
“Our children are not coins to be traded,” Mellario told her lord husband.
“He will be safe,” her lord husband answered. Liar.
Mellario wanted to laugh at her own folly, but all she could muster were sobs. My Quentyn, my beloved son.
She then thought the loss that her heart foretold was her departure from Westeros. After all, she has not seen her Quentyn ever since, or Arianne, or Trystane.
“Keep my children safe,” she demanded from the Prince of Dorne before leaving.
“I will,” the Prince told her. Liar.
She grieved for all three of them after she came back to her father’s house in Norvos, and prayed daily for her children’s safety. But the gods seemed deaf to her pleas. As deaf as my lord husband was to my concerns.
Or, mayhap, it was her who was deaf – deaf to all the warnings the gods have whispered to her, blind to all the signs of impending doom. And now she the same sense of foreboding arose in her chest as she thought of Arianne and Trystane. My Quentyn, my beloved son. I could not save you, but they shall not share your fate.
Mellario demanded her maid bring her paper and quill – she needed to write a letter to the Prince of Dorne to let him know she was returning. She may not be able to stand the sight of the man, but her feelings about him now seemed so insignificant when compared to the fear she felt for Arianne, for Tristane. I cannot trust neither god nor men to protect my children, it appears, I must do it myself. My children need me.
Forgive me, my Quentyn, my beloved son, that I was not there to protect you.
I started working on a Martell family tree drawing and i did Mellario of Norvos first bc shes just so interesting to me and honestly i want more info on her and possibly an appearance in twow or dos!!
