Actually yk what I was vagueposting when I sent you that ask I'll just say it, I *really* don't like fix-it post-canon.

I don't want to yuck anyone's yum but I always feel like these sorts of fics just take out all of the interesting stuff and consequences to a story idk

generally agree even though i do indulge in a little delusion now and again case in point my fic history BUT i think the funniest one is epilogue what epilogue for the harry potter series because jk rowling really had her like 20 year flash forward where everybody is married to their high school sweetheart with 2.5 kids and a white picket fence. extremely funny way to end that series. i think its like just draco and luna who marry outside their general hogwarts circle. like did fred or george whichever one lived really have to marry their prom date. sorry this became a harry potter rant. i know the epilogue deniers dont like it because drarry isnt canon but it really should have ended on harry asking kreacher for a sandwich like the last chapter ends instead of him the epilogue where he's like yeah son its okay if you end up in the Born Evil school house. so i guess im kind of arguing against my point.... i love the sound of my thumbs tapping on my keyboard it seems

Feel free to ignore if this isn't the sort of speculation you're interested in but as someone I consider a Theon expert 'round these parts, what do you think Theon's life would have been like if Maron had survived the Fall of Pyke in some form? Would he have stayed on the Islands and Maron sent to Winterfell? Would they both have gone?

in this scenario rodrik is still dead so that moves maron up to son and heir. this keeps asha as a marriageable political pawn and keeps theon as a spare

i don't think robert baratheon could have been swayed by ned stark to spare theon if maron was still alive. even if they took maron to ward at winterfell (unlikely. he was too old to be molded into a northern/mainlander pawn) theon would probably be killed so that balon wouldn't be able to have a spare viable heir to groom into another rebellious king of the iron islands.

any son being left the balon would be raised into a threat, so i think both theon and maron would have been killed. even if ned could still have convinced robert not to kill theon and maron (i don't think that's likely since maron was a full grown adult who was part of the rebellion and not a little boy) they wouldn't have been allowed to grow up on the islands

I wonder if Quentyn's arc is inspired by The Spanish Match. For those who don't know, Prince Charles (later the First™) and his dad's boyfriend Buckingham (the guy from Three Musketeers) travelled to Spain in secret to try and win the Spanish Infanta (princess) with some big romantic gesture and then basically TL;DR the Spanish told them to fuck off lol
