Maya at Melody Lanes, 2016
Caitlin Puckett And Calvin Cole Are Happy At Melody Lanes In Sunset Park (at 10am on a Saturday)
Can you believe that Melody Lanes opens up at 9am on the weekends? We certainly couldn't! Unfortunately Peter the mutton-chopped, tuxedo-clad bartender wasn't on duty yet, but quite frankly I would have been a little worried if he was there tending bar at 10 in the morning.
Melody Lanes is my favorite bowling alley in all of New York City. My brother Nick and I have had several joint-birthday parties here over the years. Between the $9 pitchers of beer, Peter the bartender, the snack bar with fries so good and addictive you'd swear they were sprinkled with cocaine, the 70s and 80s music pumping through the speakers, the little toys and stick-on moustaches you can buy in the vending machines, and the general overall old-school 70s/80s vibe you get as soon as you walk in here, this place is a treasure and I hope it never goes away.
youfancygirl replied to your photo:Yes! Best bartender ever quite possibly. Everyone...
We like to go on Valentine’s Day after a romantic pizza. Melody Lanes is the best.
It really is. The place reminds me of the bowling alley from my suburban childhood, both pre- and post-renovation in the mid-1980's. Melody Lanes is a goddamned treasure, so naturally cue the developers who will see a big, fat plot of land on which to build something awful.
