melon notes!
hey! hey! melon is back with another story that she had procrastinated for a really long time. i really tried to pull myself through it even though i lost all motivation to continue the story. the sudden inspiration just went bye bye but anyways enjoy the first yuya fic! ㅠㅠ
(name), a popular soloist under hybe and pledis entertainment, also one of the best kpop companies in korea. also a popular actress, having stared in many popular shows. not only known for her heavenly voice when singing, but her incredible acting and variety show sense.
shinyu, also known as shin junghwan, a member, as well as the leader of the six-member group TWS, who had rose to the charts with their debut song, and consistently kept their popularity up and going. he is well-known for his incredibly good visuals, as well as his rapping skills.
that’s probably what one would find if they researched. but what most, and probably the whole public doesn’t know, was that the two were the president and vice-president of the student council in high school.
this had lead everyone back in high school to think that they had a thing going on. well it’s not a lie, since they actually did, when they were seventeen.
fours years ago.
“oh my gosh! it’s junghwan-sunbae and (name)-sunbae! they look so good together!”
“aren’t they dating?”
“man, junghwan was really my type too…”
these sort of gossip weren’t new for junghwan and (name). they heard it everywhere they went, partly due to the fact that they are always around each other wherever they went.
the two had previously met due to the student council election, and as the top two candidates, even as rivals, they had to constantly aid one another in their work. that’s why even when junghwan had won in the end, she was still happy for him.
“(name), are you done with your work?” he asked, laying his head on her desk, “let’s go and grab lunch, i’m famished.”
“alright, give me a moment, let me just finish this problem first.” she replied, not tearing her eyes off her worksheet or even bothering to remove the wired earpiece in her ear.
upon hearing that, he started to sulk, his lips shaping into a pout. his voice got whiny, “come on, your president’s hungry!”
this immediately attracted stares from the surrounding students, since it was clearly a rare sight to behold. shinyu almost always had this stoic expression on his face, and would only break character in front of his close friends, and another exception, her.
unable to resist him tugging at her hoodie sleeve any longer, she finally (reluctantly) got up from her seat, allowing him to drag her to the cafeteria.
after getting their food and securing a table, they sat down and started eating their meal. honestly, there wasn’t a moment when they could have some time to themselves without having anyone looking at them. except for the mondays where they walked home together.
every monday, without fail, they would always walk home together, junghwan slowing down just so he could match his pace with her. also him always making the excuse of forgetting to bring his earpiece just so they could share hers, even though they were in his pocket.
she would always turn and spin around, flailing her skirt around, turning to look at him, with the brightest smile on her face. because those mondays were the best times of her life.
on one of those mondays, they were walking home together as usual, nothing special, no occasion. she was the same as always, talking about how being in the student council was so hectic, and how those curious students should just stop being so nosy about them.
junghwan then asked her out of the blue, “do you hate it that people think we’re dating?”
she turned around to look at him, clearly surprised by the sudden question, but then still calmly replied, “not really.”
not expecting that kind of answer, he asked back, “why not? isn’t it annoying?”
pondering a while again, she answered, “i would be if it wasn’t you they were talking about.”
“you’re special to me.”
those four words may have been easy for her to say, but it sure wasn’t for him to process. “i… how do you feel about me? am i just a friend?” those words took all the effort and courage in him to leave his mouth, and he turned into a blushing mess before her, rubbing his neck awkwardly.
“what do you think you are to me?” she asked, in a teasing tone.
“i don’t know.” he replied, appearing to be genuinely confused.
she giggled at his honesty, “you’re honestly so dense, i’m saying that i like you more than a friend.” hearing her say that, anyone who watched from afar would probably have thought that junghwan was lagging with the way he stayed silent for a good minute. “so… are we dating now?” he asked.
“you haven’t given me an answer, why would we be?” (name) joked.
without a second thought, he immediately said, “i like you, please be my girlfriend.”
that certain monday wasn’t just a little from the others, not only did they walk home hand-in-hand, but both of them couldn’t sleep at night. she was kicking her feet on her bed, while he was rereading the messages from earlier countless times.
from that day on, they never bothered to clear the gossips again, instead, smiling whenever they hear it. rumors spread like wildfire, everyone now certain that they were dating. months passed just like that without any worries, and both of them believed that things would stay the same.
until that dreaded monday came.
weeks had passed since junghwan had confided in (name), the words that probably broke her completely. “(name), i’m going to seoul to pursue my dream, of being an idol. i want to stand on that stage, and shine brightly like the others.” as much as she wanted to support his dream, the tears couldn’t stop flowing. he embraced her, while she sobbed into his shoulder. she knew, he knew, that him leaving would be the end for them.
the day of his departure had arrived, and he was standing at the train stations, classmates, friends and his family there to see him off. but the one person he truly wished for wasn’t there. (name) wasn’t there. at that moment, she was in her bed, covered by her blankets, tissues all over the floor that were used to wipe her tears. she couldn’t be there, she knew she would break down again if she saw him, and it would probably hold him back.
since that day, they didn’t contact each other again. he was too busy with practice, and would be exhausted by the time he reached the dorms. she was broken, visibly so, she didn’t have the heart to.
four years later.
fours years had passed in the blink of an eye. and both of them were walking down different paths. she too, left their hometown to pursue her lifelong dream of being an actress. although having only made her acting debut months ago, she was already one of the most renowned ones in south korea.
after being on a variety show where she was tasked to sing, her insanely good vocals made many big entertainment companies scout her to debut as a soloist under their company. but one of it had caught her eye, it was pledis entertainment. she knew it as the company that had produced the famous group seventeen, but was unaware that it was the very same one that TWS, rather, junghwan had debuted under.
junghwan, more widely known as shinyu now, was doing well as the leader of the freshly debuted group TWS, whose debut song was a major hit. they had won countless awards for rookie of the year, often titled as the most iconic rookie group in k-pop history. he was also widely recognised as an individuals for his outstanding visuals, as well as his rapping skills.
the day that she went to the company building to meet the producers to release her debut song, she was told that she would be meeting their newest group too, but since she didn’t know who they were, (name) would never had thought that she would be reuniting with junghwan again.
at the practice room, the younger members of TWS were excitedly chatting about the actress who would soon be joining their company. hearing their distinct chatters, shinyu approached them, “what are you guys talking about?”
“(name)-sunbaenim is going to be debuting as a soloist under pledis, i’m so excited! i watched her drama series in one night and she’s so good!” one of the members, jihoon stated.
(name)… they have the same name. but it’s not her, how could it be her? it’s just a coincidence…
just then, the door to the practice room had opened, revealing the figure that shinyu had once loved with all his heart. there she was again.
“hello, we’ll be doing our greeting. twenty-four seven with us! hello we are TWS.” shinyu leaded in the greeting along with the members.
(name) had thought she was mistaken when she saw him. but she knew it well, all too well in fact, that it was him. the way his speaks, even though his voice was now deeper. his figure was more mature too. that was him. shin junghwan.
she remained silent for a few moments before finally speaking up, “hello! i’m (name), nice to meet you all! thank you for having me.”
she couldn’t look shinyu in the eye, it hurt too much every time. the man she had loved all these years, was really before him again, with a different name.
youngjae, being the observant one, immediately could tell something was up when his leader wasn’t talking much. deciding not to pry into their matters, he chose not to say a word.
“(name)-noona, oh should i call you sunbae instead? i am your junior in this industry after all…” kyungmin hesitantly asked, afraid of overstepping.
she lit up, replying, “of course not! feel free to be more casual with me since we’re in the same company. i actually really loved your debut song!”
“i loved your series so much that i binged watched it with hanjin in one night the other day!” jihoon chimed in, along with hanjin, who appeared to be more nervous.
the maknae line actually hit it off with (name) really well, talking about all sorts of random things for hours that it only felt like minutes had gone by. wanting to talk more, dohoon invited her to have dinner with them, calling it a “company bonding dinner”.
agreeing to have barbecue, they quickly looked for places with good reviews, since they were all practically starving after they long and gruesome practice. the members had a good time, but shinyu was still tense, he barely spoke at all, avoiding any eye contact with (name).
since south korea had a law where minors couldn’t be outside after 10pm, the three maknaes had to leave first, leaving their elder members behind. once they left, dohoon immediately ordered some soju for them to enjoy. after drinking maybe two shots, he was already out like a candle. youngjae took a while longer before he also succumbed to the alcohol.
that left shinyu and (name), he was a good drinker, but she wasn’t, and it was pretty obvious with the way she was talking and how her face was completely flushed. she rested her head on the table, facing shinyu who was still drinking.
“how have you been?”
“… not bad.”
maybe it was the alcohol, but seeing his face, she really wanted to pull him in and kiss him right there and then. the tears started to prick her eyes, and she quickly turned away to avoid being caught by him. but he knew her too well, he knew she was crying, it was a habit of hers, but he chose not to say anything.
after minutes of silence, she asked, “do you hate me for that day? for not showing up when you left?” she knew she wouldn’t remember anyway when she woke up, but she still chose to ask, since it’s been tugging at her heart for the past few years.
after pondering for a while, he answered, “i don’t, rather, i still feel guilty for leaving you behind.” she had already fallen asleep, never hearing the answer to the question. noticing her light snores, he smiled, tugging strands of hair behind her ear.
the next morning.
oh. my. god. i can’t remember a thing. my head hearts from the hangover. how did i even get home?
feeling confused, she plopped onto her sofa, ruffling her hair as she tried to recall her memories, but nothing came to mind. just then, a knock on her door interrupted her thoughts. as she opened it, her manager immediately began nagging at her.
“do you know how shocked i was when shinyu gave me a call, you’re lucky i didn’t ignore it!”
“thank you, manager-nim.”
she then handed (name) a thermos, “shinyu asked to me to give it to you. apparently it’s hangover soup.”
she reached out for it, noticing a note placed on it.
morning, hope you’re feeling better. can we talk before my dance practice starts? see you there.
shinyu.
short and sweet, that’s so like him. she couldn’t help but start reminiscing their old days together, a wash of nostalgia coming over her.
she quickly got ready, pondering longer than usual about her outfit. she was extra careful with her makeup today, making sure it looked perfect. she put more effort into her hair too, tying it into a hairstyle she thought he would like.
all because she was meeting him.
arriving at the dance room, she was greeted by his tall figure. “morning”, he greeted. she was surprised that he would actually say something first, especially since he had avoided eye contact at all cost just the day before, but still returned the greeting.
“what did you call me here for?” she asked.
he was slightly hesitant, appearing to be rather tense. after a few moments, he pulled out his phone and showed it to her.
TWS Leader Shinyu spotted with Rookie Idol/ Actress (Name), appearing to be rather intimate.
those words were hard to miss, especially with the pictures that were taken of them in the restaurant. anger started bubbling inside her. it was annoying, what were the reporters doing spreading stupid rumors like that?
“sorry, i should have been more careful,” he broke the silence, probably because he saw the irritation on her face.
she looked up at him, giving him a gentle smile, “don’t be silly, it’s not our fault in the first place.”
just then, the door to the practice room swung open, revealing both their managers as well as the rest of the tws members too.
“shinyu-hyung, noona…” youngjae said silently, “the… director is asking to meet the both of you. it was rather obvious that they were both in for a lecture, but (name) still felt irritated that they were being accused of something like that…
they stood outside the office, only entering when the director had called them in. “i believe you’ve seen the articles?” he said, not even turning around to face them.
hanging their heads low, they both solemnly replied, “yes…”
“under normal circumstances, the both of you would have been severely punished for this, but…” he ended in a cliffhanger.
“…but?”
“but the public response is rather good, so i’ll let it slide this time. but be more careful next time.”
with that, they were immediately ushered out of the office, leaving more confused than before. “what was that?” shinyu said, clearly not understanding things.
hanjin was scrolling through his phone the whole time the pair was inside, and he seemed to have found a different article. “hyung, noona, look at this!” he said while passing his phone to them.
Fans are loving the newly revealed couple, Shinyu and (name) for their sweet interaction, calling them the ultimate couple of the century, and naming Shinyu as a very “boyfriend material” person!
a commentator in the video had said that, while a clip had shown the passed-out dohoon, youngjae, and (name) lying on the table while Shinyu was looking at her and tugging her hair behind her ear.
“hyung… you actually did that?” youngjae uttered out, not believing what he just saw with his own eyes. the other members, including (name), turned to look at him too, utter disbelief in their eyes.
shinyu’s face went red, as he quickly tried to end it by saying, “no! it’s… it’s just that her hair was in her mouth, and it-it seemed dirty so…”
the members couldn’t stop teasing him, seeing the rare sight of their leader being so flustered and trying to prove himself (but failing miserably). they poked his ears, cheering, “shinyu-hyung is in love!”
meanwhile, (name) just stood there silently, but internally, she was equally flustered as he was. thoughts began spiralling out of control, and the thought that shinyu had still loved her after all this time began creeping into her mind.
before anyone else said a word, she immediately took off for the washroom, trying to hide her nerves. the members called after her, but she couldn’t hear what they said due to her embarrassment.
standing before the mirror, she looked at herself, her face was fine, but after tugging her hair behind her ear, it was completely red. upon the sight, she was forcibly recalled of what happened the night before.
last night.
“do you hate me for that day? for not showing up when you left?”
“not really, in fact-” that was the last thing she had heard shinyu said after she had fallen asleep.
she was woken up pretty soon after by shinyu talking to himself. not wanting to make him feel awkward, she chose to remain silent and pretend to still be asleep.
“you know, even after all these years, there wasn’t a day when i didn’t miss your presence.” her heart that was beating normally started to speed up.
“i’ve loved you all along, (name).”
that was the breaking point, she was so sure that her heart was beating so loudly that he could hear it. her ears too, they turned visibly vibrantly red.
back to the present.
she splashed water on her face, not caring about whether she looked like a mess or anything. she couldn’t be bothered to care whether her hair and makeup were alright. not when she could be winning the love of her life back.
regaining her composure, she ran back to where she had last saw the members, and unsurprisingly, they were all there, patiently waiting for her.
“noona, are you alright? you just suddenly ran off like that…” kyungmin asked, a little worried.
nodding at him with a great smile, she then turned to look at shinyu, saying, “shinyu, could i talk to you in private for a second?” the members were taken aback, but he was calm, agreeing to it.
the two headed off to somewhere people wouldn’t really come by, allowing for a a meaningful and private talk between them. there was so many things she wanted to ask.
did he know i was awake when he said that?
did he truly mean what he said last night?
do we still have a chance to fix things?
“i knew you were awake when i said those things. i could tell from your ears, some things really don’t change, huh.” he cut the silence, looking at her like things between them had never changed.
she couldn’t help but see the seventeen-year-old him while he was talking. the way he talks, the way he leaned on the wall, none of those had changed.
not knowing how to reply, she simply said, “yeah.”
“i’m serious about what i said last night. i’m not trying to pressure you into giving me an answer or anything, but i really want to give us, this love, another chance.” finishing what he said, he messed his hair, and walked past her.
after making sure that he was out of her sight, she immediately squat down, bring her knees to her face. the tears kept pricking at her eyes, threatening to gush out at any moment.
why did he have to say it like that? can’t he tell that i’ve loved him too? what’s the use of his brain if he can’t even think about how i felt?
every new thought just made her feel worse, but she knew she couldn’t leave it like that, so she took out her phone, and texted shinyu.
let’s meet at the park tonight, we need to talk.
delivered
she heaved out a sigh, before getting back up and spend her rest of the day practicing and hopefully not running into shinyu again.
later that night.
shinyu had arrived at the meeting spot earlier than scheduled, maybe it was the nerves. he just couldn’t calm down. half of him was expectant, the other half was afraid that leave, like he did before. he couldn’t stop pacing around that same area, until he noticed her.
she waved to him, just like the good old them used to do. she was wearing the hoodie that he had gifted her on their anniversary that came in a matching set. seeing that made his heart ache a little.
agreeing to sit down on the bench, they look at the han river, admiring its beauty bathed in the moonlight. they had once agreed to come here together when they were older, never thinking that it would be like this.
“so, i think you know why i called you here.” she said.
“yeah, do you already have an answer? sorry i didn’t mean to pressure you into giving me one so soon,” he apologised.
she sighed, “it’s alright, we should have settled things properly long ago anyways.”
she took a deep breath in, before finally letting all thoughts out, “it’s been years since i last saw you, so when i saw you the other day, i was actually really happy. i also thought that, maybe we could start over, on a fresh beginning.”
he turned to look at her, reaching out for her hand to hold. she gladly took his hand, before asking, “can we start over, junghwan? i’m asking you, not the idol shinyu.”
although he had asked first, there was still hesitance, because he didn’t want to hurt her again. he could only imagine how much pain he had left her with back then, and not being by her side to heal that.
but he had once swore to himself, that if he really got another chance with her, he would never make her feel the same pain again. never again.
“if you’ll let me heal the wound i caused, then i would love to be by your side again.” after saying that, he immediately pulled her into an embrace, filling the hole that was left in both their hearts.
he caressed her cheek, pulling her closer, before giving her the most tender, gentle, and sweetest kiss filled with days of yearning and longing for the other.
that marked the start of their new chapter together, as well as an oath of eternal love and loyalty.
bonus!
“hey, stop pushing!” jihoon said, as he shoved kyungmin’s face aside. “no you move, i can’t see either.”
the rest of the five members had followed shinyu and (name) to where they were speaking in “private”. they were way to curious to know what is going on between the two of them.
“i knew you were awake when i said those things. i could tell from your ears, some things really don’t change, huh.” they heard shinyu’s voice.
“did they use to know each other?” dohoon, being the oblivious one, asked.
“i knew there was some interesting tea around them,” youngjae announced proudly for noticing from the start.
“i’m serious about what i said last night. i’m not trying to pressure you into giving me an answer or anything, but i really want to give us, this love, another chance.”
the members all gasped silently, the realisation hitting them soon after. “they dated? they’re exes?” that thought crossed each member’s mind simultaneously, never thinking that their leader would have dated the (name) of all people before.
shinyu turned his back to leave, noticing the members eavesdropping on their conversation. as he walked past them, he glanced at them, making them all laugh silently, sweat dripping from their forehead.
once he had left, the members shift their focus to (name), who was crouching down. at first they were worried, but seeing how flustered she was, they all said the same thing.
“she’s definitely in love,” dohoon said.
“she is.” youngjae said too.
“yeah she is.” said jihoon.
kyungmin cheered, “shinyu-hyung finally getting out of his single era.”
hanjin then chimed in, “was she still in love with him after all this time.”
that made all the members turn to hanjin, circling around and trying to grasp the situation. “she’s so loyal to shinyu-hyung. she must have really loved him.”
melon’s afterwords!
