on the one hand, Tommy Merlyn's death was achingly sad and completely unfair and I miss him like anything.

on the other, I really appreciate that Arrow chose to fridge him rather than Thea or Laurel or Felicity, and his death had a powerful impact that I truly believe has changed Oliver for the better.

Okay, guys, I think it would be interesting if we sat down and had a conversation about anthropology/archaeology on either side of the pond. I'll start off by summing up some of the basic differences?

UK:

heavy emphasis on social anthropology/functionalism/structuralism

archaeology is a separate discipline

Malinowski, Radcliffe-Brown, Max Gluckman, and Edmund Leach (anthro)

The Leakeys, Bell&Lawrence, Renfrew?, Shanks et al (arch)

US:

four field approach: linguistics, cultural, physical, archaeology

can be further divisions and considerations within the above, and some studies will combine aspects of more than one field but one is usually "primary"

Boas, Mead, Benedict, Whorf, Geertz, and Harris; Jefferson, Binford, Schiffer

Some thinkers and ideas were important to both--Malinowski, Levi-Strauss, Marcel Mauss, etc--and both spring from the earlier tradition of men such as Tylor and Morgan. Of interesting note is that the Leakeys and their findings are treated as part of physical anthropology in the US. Clearly, also, I know a good deal less about foundational thinkers/figures in UK archaeology, so I apologise if I screwed up on that one!
