Melt - Phoenix, Arizona

Melt is pretty high-ranking for me, in terms of atmosphere, branding, and creative flavors. Melt is found just outside of downtown Phoenix in a trailer, basically, with this random flamingo art on the walls, and some picnic seating out front. The work of a pure evil genius, here you can order a flight of ice cream (five scoops) in a muffin tin with cupcake liners, or a single scoop in a Chinese take out folding box... Either way, you get a fortune cookie!

The Asian theming doesn’t carry over to their flavor offerings, which err on the side of Mexican - featuring Gansitos and Horchata. It’s been a while, but I recall really liking the Strawberry Jalapeno and Horchata. I believe Gansitos and Snickerdoodle are also pictured above in my flight. The most important thing I recall is that it was superb, affordable, fun ice cream, and it is quite endeared to me now. A must in Phoenix!

Travel tip: Before Melt, I grabbed a drink at Bitter & Twisted in downtown Phoenix. It is one of the coolest cocktail bars I have ever been to!! It balances swank and nerdy with a futuristic comic book-style drink menu in a club-like setting. I believe this is where I had my first Aviation, which is now my signature cocktail. Google it!
