What is your favorite underrated bug
Oooh great question! I have so many underrated favs but if I had to pick just one I'd say membracid treehoppers.
They're members of the true bug order Hemiptera, which makes them "cousins" of insects like cicadas, stinkbugs and assassin bugs (and many others!) They're like tiny cicadas with funky hats.
They come in many shapes and colors, and their "hats" are actually an extension of the pronotum, the body segment just behind the head. It's believed that the shape of these little structures are meant as a disguise to avoid predation, as they often resemble things such as thorns, bird poo, and even ants!
They also make sounds just like cicadas, but because they're so small the noise is inaudible to the human ear. However, there are recordings!
