Pregnancy Update
I’m 39 weeks and 6 days. My due date is tomorrow, October 3rd.
I had a doctor appointment today. I got my cervix checked. I am 2 cm dilated and 60% effaced (at 36 weeks I was 1 cm and 60%). Also, even though it doesn’t look it on the outside, he has dropped. He is in -1 station, which is a good sign.
I asked my dr to perform a membrane sweep, which she did.
Ever since I got it done I’ve had period cramp like pains and TONS of pressure.
I’m really really realllyyyy hoping that he decides to make his debut tonight, considering that his daddy doesn’t work on Saturday and Sunday and is only allowed one day off of work (he hasn’t been there for 6 months yet, so he’s still in his probationary period where they are only allowed one day). So it would be absolutely ideal if he came tonight.

The midwife yesterday told me they would do a membrane sweep at my appointment next week (39 weeks exactly) if I wanted. I'm wary because I'm suuuuuper sensitive down there. Plus partner starts a new job this week- if the sweep did induce labor, it'd be convenient to labor on the weekend so he doesn't miss work... but if it takes a few days to work, then I'm laboring during his second week on the job; or if it didn't work at all since I won't even be past due, then it's pain for nothing. Eh.
COME ON BABY!
I am 38 weeks today, and had my OB appt around noon. I decided I am totally done being pregnant and ready to meet baby Alex so I let him strip my membranes. Now if you have ever had this done, you will know it's pretty uncomfortable. Not so much sharp pain, but A TON of pressure. Ouch. Basically the OB inserts his finger deep inside the uterus and loosens the membranes connecting the amniotic sac (which baby is inside of) to the inner lining of the uterus. This is NOT the same as your water breaking and this done not break your water or dislodge your mucous plug. My OB warned me that he has a reputation for putting women into labor within 24 hours of stripping their membranes because of how aggressive he is. I told him I was ready and totally fine with that. He took three 'sweeps', giving me a few second break in between to take some cleansing breathes. It was definitely WAY more aggressive than when I had it done with Ava. There is no guarantee that this will even do anything mind you. I had it done with Ava and she still didn't come until 1 day after her due date. This is why I am trying not to get my hopes up. I'm at work right now so unfortunately I still have to walk/function. I would kill to lay down. It's gotten much more uncomfortable to walk and I am having lots of random pains/cramps/tightening. I haven't had any painful contractions though yet. He says it is usually 4-6 before anything starts really happening. I am sort of just like....in a daze. Am I really going to have a SECOND BABY. I am not even fully adjusted to having one, and now my life is going to get flipped upside down again. I am excited but so scared too. I can't wait to hold Alexandria and see what she looks like. I want to know how it feels to love two babies because right now I can't imagine! Husband is worried because of course we are having basically a terrible ice storm this afternoon and especially into the evening. He is worried about getting me to the hospital on time. I am only slightly worried, because Joe always takes care of me and is the best driver I know. Praying!
