Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s Society
Today my Dad and I took part in the #memorywalk for Alzheimer’s Society. Actually, I must point out that I technically dragged my Dad along so I wouldn’t have to do it alone. Haha! But all in all it was a great chance to get fresh air, make the most of this glorious sunny weather, keep fit and raise funds for an amazing charity.
I took part in the Memory Walk in honour of my Nanny Mary who suffered with Vascular Dementia for a few years before she passed away. It was horrible to slowly loss her and see the effects that the terrible disease had - not something I want to experience. She was an entirely different person and could not do the things she used to, even basic functions that we take for granted. It’s sad to say but I was actually glad she passed as it meant the end of her suffering. It was no way to live.
I do get paranoid that I already am heading that way as my memory is atrocious!... If anyone has any memory tips that help me improve, please message!
The money raised can help fund the research to find ways to slow it down, understand it and maybe even one day find a cure.
This particular charity fundraiser has no particular route. Participants could walk where they want for as long as they want. Probably partly to do with COVID-19. So I had the option of anything from a 10 minute walk to a 10 mile walk.
We ended up doing just over 7 miles (no idea what that is in km) from the house in a big sort of loop through the estate and around part of the coast of Torbay. There was a nice/tough mixtures of flat walks, inclines and steps. So I am well and truly knackered afterwards! But pleased that I managed to walk a reasonable distance.
There is still time to support the charity/sponsor my walk. Donate here.
