Partial Female Head - Met Museum Collection

Description:

The identity of the female with the elaborate bobbed hairstyle, her head terminating prematurely just above the brow - is puzzling. There is no named figure or deity with whom she can be associated, although the figure type may have precursors among female figurines of the Third Intermediate Period and Late Period.

Description:

Mitry (previously read as Merti) was a high official and provincial governor.

This statue shows Mitry in a flaring wig pushed behind his ears and a short kilt. His original wooden stick and baton, indications of rank, are preserved.

Description:

These heavily laden offering bearers are from the end of a procession of men bearing offerings to the king. They are both high officials; their titles are inscribed above them. The one at the right, who carries papyrus and lotus flowers and birds in a cage, is a "high official, district administrator of Dep [Buto]"; the one at the left, who brings a platter of fruit and cooked poultry, is an "acquaintance of the palace." Another "district administrator," now lost, was once at the very right. The figures come from the east end of the south wall of the chamber; the block border behind the second figure marks the edge of the door frame.

Nikare as a scribe - Met Museum Collection

Description:

Old Kingdom Egyptians sought to express a person's intangible personality by a multiplicity of images. Nikare was represented by at least four statues, including two in the Museum's collection (see also 52.19). In this statue he slightly bends his head as he sits over a papyrus, which he unrolls on his lap. The text records his name and title: Employee of the Granary, Nikare.
