On AO3 tagging for fics:

If you tag a character in a Relationship tag, but do not include their corresponding Character tag, the fic will not appear when searching for fics with the character in it.

Example: I write a fic and only tag it under the main tag “Lán Zhàn | Lán Wàngjī/Wèi Yīng | Wèi Wúxiàn.”

If I search under the main tag “Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian,” this fic will not appear.

Similarly, if someone is looking for fics without Wei Wuxian or Lan Wangji (say a Nie Huaisang-focused meta), they will not be able to filter out fics using their Character tags. These fics without Character tags will still appear.

So please! Even if you have already tagged the characters in the Relationship tags, please include Character tags! You will help people find your fics and improve navigation within the fandom.
