i went from ‘oh yeah love me dead does kinda work as a lawlight song’ to ‘actually wait yeah it kinda fits yagamane even more when you interpret the lyrics in a second way, i see it’ in like a month, but what really surprised me is that today, many months after i began to listen to this song thinking of dn and yagamane, it suddenly struck me that wait. wait a second. if you interpret the song in yet another very different way then ‘love me dead’ actually works pretty well as a ximeng song too. oh what the hell

man there is so very little ximeng / mengxi on tumblr. anyway you'll never guess who finally made a lofter account the other day for ximengxi content. I do not regret it at all holy shit I found an amazing author who Really Gets the characters & relationship. holy shit. (I have reread one of their 3-chapter fics 4 times by now. it's a comedy fic. peak characterization/understanding. feels crazy how it aligns perfectly with my interpretations)

I love that "Jiang Xi is the most beautiful man in the entire cultivation world" and "Xue Meng is primarily attracted to himself" are both fully canon information that exist. like at that point you might as well say Xue Meng is officially the most likely character to be susceptible to genetic sexual attraction

the funny thing about mengxi / ximeng is that while it’s technically dadson it’s like the tamest, least dadson-esque dadson to ever dadson, because they are not really father and son in any way other than genetics (+ the fact that jx was indeed the one who got xm’s mother pregnant with xm). they lived like… 20+ years of life in two different places far away from each other without meeting, let alone knowing each other was related to them in any way. they just straight up do not have a father-son bond in any shape or form. after finding out the secret truth at last, they now have an awkward relationship that still doesn’t resemble anything even remotely like a normal parent-child relationship.

absolutely hilarious that this rareish pair in the fandom is literally known to be a most popular RPF ship in-universe in canon. many nameless background characters ship it. the novel’s protagonist enthusiastically supports it. RPF novels about their relationship are popularly sold in the market in-universe. everyone thinks that there’s something between them. many suspect that they’re together. and when you look at the two characters in question, it makes sense. one slammed the other into a wall once. one once princess carried the other to safety. when they first met one praised the other person’s beauty to the skies in his ownn mind before rudely addressing him without honorifics and calling him ugly. the former is the only one who dares to act like that around the latter. he often gets away with it too. they look like they are around the same age. they act really weird around each other. they canonically went on a romantic date with each other via a blind date dating app-ish service. one is obsessively in hate with the other in a way that feels tsundere. the other actually awkwardly spoils the other in a covert and, well, awkward way. they are both subtly possessive over the other person. so really the ship is pretty much semi-canon. biologically they’re father and son

my favourite bab ship is obviously hexie, but the 2ha ship that's currently taking up the most space in my head right now is uh. fucking ximeng. for some fucking reason????? dadson is actually really not my thing aside from this one what the fuck. this is apparently rarepair hell but not the deepest circles of it? okay. man

if you're wondering why. well. blame the extras! they got the idea into my head and I thought 'hey wouldn't it be really funny if...'. which in my experience is often a ominous sign.

don't kill me btw those two canonically went on a (blind) date together (that was xm's first date in his life) (it went Badly.), half of the jianghu canonically think jx is xm's sugar daddy (canonically there's literally rpf in the market about it) and xm's big brother mr is also fully under the impression that they are fucking. not even going to begin about that one forum post reply jx didn't ask to be deleted that one time (seriously what the fuck was that? sorry if I had a secret kid then my issue with people shipping us would not even remotely be related to the top/bottom order. jfc dude.). or that time when jx is somehow actually the first (aside from the og seller of the scroll himself) to volunteer to dress up as a woman to flirt with the scroll spirit despite it obviously not being something he's good at or used to or likes or feels even remotely comfortable with doing, and he volunteers specifically only because he just doesn't want xm to do that (I mean. HUH.). or the day when xm goes on a date with someone who's jealous and heartbroken over romance troubles and keeps complaining about their lover and lover's lover, and xm finds that he can't help but direct the topic to jx repeatedly and complain about how much jx really really sucks and when trying to discuss the date's love troubles, xm keeps coming up with analogies about fathers in a way that is obviously projection to the point where the date is like "dude what's with your obsession with using fathers for your analogies, do you have daddy issues". or the fact that xm is canonically autoromantic autosexual while you could compare jx to pre-curse narcissus (and you know what narcissus is known for). or--
