Well, it's official. Filled out my forms, pre-paid my copay, got my post-op prescriptions ready. Thursday, I will have surgery, a laparoscopic hysterectomy, due to having an adenoma. That is a benign tumor formed from glandular structures in epithelial tissue. If it continues to grow, will cause severe problems. Being transparent about this because the pain felt during menstrual cycles isn't taken seriously. Not only is there severe pain, but also so much bleeding you'd think it's a crime scene, nausea, vertigo, extreme anemia, wearing multiple pairs of underwear, sitting on and sleeping on towels to prevent leaks, mood swings, and extreme fatigue, even when not on your menstrual cycle.
Midol was my go to medicine, but when I started seeing a new primary care physician 2 years ago, she prescribed that I go back on birth control and take Mefanamic Acid for the pain, I couldn't have been more thankful. The price for the Mefanamic Acid is ridiculous though. Over $900. It's considered a third tier drug with my insurance, so my copay is $75.00. Let's just say I don't get it very often.
Thank goodness an MRI caught the adenoma. An ultrasound I had a few months earlier didn't, but it did show fibroids and an ovarian cyst along with endometrial symptoms that will be taken care of too. I've already had my children, but I'm still pretty young, so the surgery consists of taking my uterus out, but will allow me to keep my ovaries so I won't go into early menopause. I'm so excited because the suffering has gone on long enough. Not looking forward to the drive though. I'll be traveling about an hour and a half to an outpatient facility one state over, in Maryland. Must check in by 6:30am, so I pray traffic won't be a nuisance like always. This post will probably get ignored mostly, but it's here in case anyone may have any questions about what to do or what to ask their doctor about if in a similar situation. Fibroids, cysts, tumors, PCOS, endometriosis, menorrhagia, etc is becoming more common now. We don't have to suffer anymore. Here's to better health! ❤
