This Monday is going to be a big day for me. I’m meeting with my mother the boss of the non-profit I’m on the board of directors for. I’m only talked to this person through text but seems very nice and doesn’t believe in using high and low functioning labels.
Anyway, my job on the board of directors for this non-profit I’m apart of is to give services to autistic children and families. One of the services which were totally my idea that I pitched to this woman was a mentoring program. With autistic adults mentor autistic kids, teens, and possibly people in their early twenties that works like a big brother program.
She ate that shit up.
So now we are looking for autistic adults and some neurotypical people to help mentor this program. I think it would be valuable to have some neurotypical people come on aboard because of experiences I had growing up. I was scared of talking to neurotypicals and I think if the mentorees could be around neurotypicals who were okay with their autism and used to it it would help them deal with other neurotypicals better.
I already have a mom who loved the idea and wanted me specifically to mentor her 13-year-old son.
Now that I get to meet my boss face to face we can start talking about other things that will be apart of my job and getting my program on its legs.
FUUUUCK YES.
