Okay bear with my ramblings for a sec
Around 60 or 70 years after TLoK and 10 years after Korra’s death, there’s another Avatar. Their name is Maro, they’re an earthbender, and they’ve been raised by an old Asami from the moment the Kyoshi Warriors left the baby on her doorstep.
Maro’s an expert in earthbending and firebending so far, the latter courtesy of their BFF Rih. They’re also somewhat friendly with the current Crown Princess of the Fire Nation, Princess Eimora. Despite Rih’s despicable feelings toward Eimora and the Throne in general, the three kids all get tossed together when Maro is 10 (Rih being 12 and Eimora 14).
Kasen, a waterbender, has created and nearly perfected a drug that causes benders to lose control of their element if they attempt to bend. She’s already performed experiments on earthbenders and waterbenders, and now she’s landed in the Fire Nation. Maro uses their earthbending to get Rih and Eimora out of the raid for victims, but now Kasen has her eyes set on experimenting with the Avatar.
Now Rih and Eimora have to protect Maro while also trying to get them around the nations to educate them in airbending, waterbending, and finally energybending if they have any hope of stopping Kasen. Maro, however, has no interest in learning to save the world. They just lost the woman who raised them and now they’re stranded with two firebenders and a bajillion expectations from literally everyone who knows they’re the Avatar.
Patience wearing thin after failed attempts to find an airbender teacher on the run from Kasen’s thugs and wild monsters, the Comaroderie (led by Eimora) gets to the Kyoshi Warriors and Kyoshi Island. Eimora brings Maro here in the vain hope that the people who abandoned them would be able to talk some sense into them, but instead Maro has a breakdown and ends up trying to kill themselves by cutting off their ears, hoping to bleed out. However, one of the Kyoshi Warriors is a bloodbender and clots the wounds as best she can. Maro ends up deaf, and before Eimora and Rih can try and understand their suicidal tendency, Kasen raids. And Maro runs.
They end up being recovered by Tsundue, Jinora’s youngest daughter and an airbender, who takes them back to the Air Temple to help them recover and rest. They manage to keep secret that they’re the Avatar and instead listens to Tsundue’s wishes and hopes of either being the new Avatar or assisting the Avatar in their quests and training someday. Maro ends up confiding in Tsundue that they’re the Avatar and they’d really appreciate it if she didn’t tell anyone because they love how people don’t refer to them as “the Avatar” here.
Meanwhile Rih and Eimora have arrived in the Air Temple looking for Maro, but instead they have been “kidnapped” (in Eimora’s terms) by Meelo’s twin sons Dorjee and Menzi. Rih becomes frustrated very quickly and storms away to find his missing-for-two-months friend.
And that’s what I’ve got so far. Thoughts?
