Mericcup Week 2014 ♥ | Day 4: You Found Me (♫Kelly Clarkson)
I can take care of myself.
That's what Merida always told herself and that was what everyone else assumed as well. That was why nobody bothered to step in when she was picked on, and just like any normal day as today was at her new elementary school, Merida was left to stand up for herself despite being outnumbered.
That was, until a certain scrawny built boy with brown ruffled up hair came to her defense.

“Look at you, all dolled up and…pretty.”
Merida turns, and it is a sweet, sweet relief to see Hiccup standing there, looking appreciative and
just
this side of smug. She raises an eyebrow at him, intending to question his hesitance at her description but he holds his hands up in surrender, moving forward to kiss her briefly on the cheek when she doesn’t demur.
“Ye’ll be the death o’ me, Hic, I swear to Odin himself,” Merida grumbles, shoving him on the shoulder gently.
Hiccup grins, his new self-confidence lending him smoothness to his limbs that couldn’t be found at the time they’d first met. “Unfortunately, you’ve decided to marry your cause of death, so I guess that’s a ship that’s already sailed?”
The redhead rolls her eyes heavenward and pokes him in the chest.
“Ye’re nae to see the bride before the wedding, are ye?”
He rubs the spot where she’s poked him, a quirk to his lips reminding Merida of her decision to choose this man—for he was a man, not the boy he’d once been, when they’d roamed and played as children.
“What can I say; I can’t stay away,” Hiccup replies, gesturing wildly and almost knocking into the wood of armoire and upturning the crown nestled on its mantle.
What follows is a series of cursing not fit for a queen-to-be, a slap upside the head, and straightening out the upset furniture, all while Merida tries and fails to muffle her laughter at Hiccup’s expense.
“Och, now ye’ve done it!” she exclaims, chuckling at his dismayed face.
He brushes down his tunic and rolls his eyes good-naturedly. “They’re waiting downstairs, you know.”
And just like that, Merida’s laughter stops. She sighs, a big gust of air blowing from her mouth, glancing out her window at the courtyard where the rest of her family and guests—as well as most of Hiccup’s village—were mingling about while they waited for her to descend.
“D’ye think I’ll make a good queen?” she asks, with a rueful twist to her lips.
Hiccup blinks, coming forward to stand beside her, looking down at his future subjects as well.
“You don’t think so?” he asks in turn.
The redhead looks up at him—did he ever stop growing?—and sighs again.
“It’s no’ tha’, it’s just—Dad was a great king, and me mum was perfect to help him out. I dinna want to fail their legacy.”
Hiccup smiles.
“I think, that the people down there?” He gestures out the window, at the courtyard filled with people. “They’re more scared of me beside you, than you being a bad queen. I mean, look at me!”
That, at least, gets a small laugh from Merida. She reaches up and pinches his cheek, saying, “But ye’re a wee ball o’ Viking manliness and strength!”
“I think the ‘wee’ part is redundant,” he counters, batting her hand away. “But seriously, Mer, you’ll do great. I believe in you, and your people believe in you. You’ll be the greatest queen that your land’s ever had—and besides, why are you jumping to that, it’s our wedding day!”
Merida shakes her head, brow finally lightening. “Shut up, ye’re sharing the burden. Ye’ll be my king—”
“And you’ll always be my lionheart,” he continues with a grin.
Mericcup Week ♥ | Day 3: I Choose You (♫Sara Bareilles)
AU In which Hiccup overhears and completely misunderstands Merida's decision to marry a suitor of her mother's choice causing an argument between them after he announces his sudden departure while Merida chases after him, bewildered by his actions.
"For goodness sake, Hiccup, I've already made my decision! I choose -"
"I'm happy for you Mer - I really am!"
"Just let me finish -"
"Please Mer, don't make it harder than it already is. I -"
With a yell of pure frustration, she tackled him to the ground, effectively shutting him up.
"I choose you! YOU - you idiot!"
Hiccup looked stunned as he saw tears streaming down her reddened face. "I choose you..."
With much effort, he pushed himself up, simultaneously pulling her towards him and shushing her with his lips.

Day 7: King and Lionheart – Of Monsters and Men
She’d be terrified if he weren’t here, equally as scared as she is as they roam through dark caverns and teeter on the edges of cliffs. As if the boogeyman couldn’t have chosen a worse spot to lead them to as they search for Jack and Rapunzel. The lair was empty; a cruel trail of clues has only led them here.
“I don’t sense anything,” Hiccup says to her. Toothless, next to Hiccup, roars in agreement.
“Me either. Ye think this is a trap?”
“One-hundred percent certain of it.”
Merida goes to turn around and start down the mountain when she stumbles back into Hiccup. Where there was previously land, there is now only the open sky. Hiccup looks at the cliff side and then back at Merida with wide eyes. Then, he slowly pulls her back by the shoulder until the two of them are against Toothless’s side. Hiccup gets on Toothless’s back first, and then pulls Merida up with him. Merida pulls an arrow out of her quiver and notches it on her bow, ready to fire at any given moment.
“We really need to get out of here,” Hiccup whispers down to his dragon. Merida tugs on the back of Hiccup’s shirt to direct his attention behind them, to see nightmares coming around the other side of the mountain. Hiccup leans back down to Toothless.
“Go. Go!”
Toothless, even being a Night Fury, isn’t fast enough. He can’t even hit the air before the nightmares close in on all sides, surrounding the trio. Merida and Hiccup exchange glances, and then look up to see a cloud forming above their heads, and Pitch appearing out of nowhere. Hiccup absently reaches for Merida’s shoulder, pulling her in closer to him. Merida aims her bow up to the sky.
“Hmm. Dragonboy and the archer. I knew you two would show up as soon as you knew Frost and the young Corona were missing, and my trail of clues led to here.”
“Ye don’t have them here, do ye?” Merida snaps. Pitch shakes his head, smirking down at Hiccup and Merida. Hiccup reaches for his shield, putting it out in front of himself and Merida, but positioning it so that it doesn’t block Merida’s bow.
“No, but now I have you two. And that’s just perfect. Interesting turn of events, isn’t it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have my bidding to do elsewhere. With you four taken care of, I have a direct path to the Guardians.”
And with that, Pitch vanishes again, and the chaos begins. The nightmares and dark clouds of swirling nightmare sand cave in on Merida and Hiccup. Merida feels herself being ripped away from Toothless’s back, as does Hiccup, and Hiccup makes a desperate attempt to reach out for Merida’s hand amidst the darkness. Merida’s fingers barely brush his before they can no longer see anything of each other.
