I love the way Merik Nihar is written. I love that he starts as someone who IS well intended, but who is also too focused on their own worldview. I love that while he didn't target Iseult at any point he was not devoid of casual racism that had been part of his culture for a long time (calling the No A-matsis '’Matsis') . I love that he doesn't immediately think of Cam as a boy but it's something that he has to grow into.
Merik comes into so many realisations about himself and his way of thinking. And despite his flaws he learns to listen and becomes open to being educated. He becomes a much better and more compassionate person throughout the series.
