Singing Summits

I personally never got to unlock the third and final singing summit. I think? they could only be unlocked with a pearl purchase, but I could be wrong.

The second was my favorite because of the radiant, glowing anemones. I think in another life, I'd be happy as a clownfish.

(imho, i think they could have gone with a different flora in the third summit...maybe some pretty rocks or corals? The anemones sort of look like those little vibrators that you slip over your fingers lol)

Realm Art (Part 2)

These aren't in any particular order. Just wanted to put them all in one place for preservation and nostalgia! In retrospect, I don't remember these all being so blue!

Archer's Cave. Not sure how dangerous a bow-wielding mermaid would be, given physics!

The clearest shot of Laval Fields I could find with the ground uncovered. Hi, Calypso! I'm thinking of making a post on the gilded mermaids sometime soon.

Grand Colonnade. Great use of height and dimension. These last realms they released introduced an architectural element that I believe was supposed to be further explored in the story of Mermaid World: Stories, but things never got that far, which is a crying shame.

Crater Tower with a fun collection of anemone. I should probably also do a post on the decor, sometime. That paper fan and the moai head statue are practically tattooed in my mind.

Shots of Sunrise Ballroom and Continental Cliffs. I posted the original background art from Emery Miller's site, but it's nice to see what they look like populated. I remember being mildly thalassophobic over Continental Cliffs lol

I know I said these weren't in any particular order but I had to save Twilight Canal for last: This realm's art haunted me for upwards of nine years. All of the realms have a special place in my heart, but there was something just so otherworldly and alien to Twilight Canal that I really enjoyed. The final unlockable realm of the game, before servers went down at the end of 2017.

Realm Art!

I did a little bit of digging and found a lot of great stuff from an inactive old MW community group on Facebook. It's because of this group I now have photos of every Mermaid World realm released. Don't know why I didn't think to look there sooner. A lot of rare realm background art that doesn't come up! I was really elated to come across this stuff. Photo quality isn't the greatest, but I'll gladly take what I can get.

First we have Ancient Pillars, which was the starting 'base' realm for Mermaid World Stories and the reskin of Mystic Rocks. Photos of this realm aren't particularly rare or uncommon, but I felt I should include it for posterity.

Fallen Temple, a pretty obvious reskin of Kelp Sanctuary. The "temple" in question is sort of covered by a Frill Anemone sleeping.

Peaceful Grove, or Deepwater Cove 2.0.

Fortune Cavern/Crystal Cave. I do appreciate the additions of depth and texture to these reskins. The city-like monument structure in the background has me intrigued!

Crescent Bay, where they flipped Hidden Arches and hit it with a slight recolor. The changes they made to these backgrounds were veryyy minor but I still appreciated the new art and little touches!

Comprehensive List of Realms

I'm decently sure this is all of them, in order of unlocking. Forgive the terrible formatting. I remember having these all memorized in order as a kid, and I'm incredibly fond and nostalgic for each and every one of them lol

Original Realms: These were the realms available upon release. Unlocking them required a certain level and coin purchase, and most of their realm art/backgrounds are readily available strewn across the internet.

Mystic Rocks  Kelp Sanctuary  Deepwater Cove Crystal Cave Ice Haven Coral Gardens Dreamwater Lagoon Hidden Arches Sunken Valley Rainbow’s End

Additional Realms: The developers added the following realms in an update (Dec 07, 2012, according to Apptopia's archived version history) when the game was still in full swing and players had run out of room. Remaining material of these realms are sparse, but they're there if you look hard enough.

Endless Rift Seashell’s Rest Tipping Rock Darkroot Labyrinth Thousand Lilies

"Final" Realms: As the name suggests, the last realms that were added into the game before Mermaid World shut down. Per Apptopia, the first "7 additional realms" of this list were added on Aug 14, 2014, but no written records of the rest that I can find. Most and maybe all of the realm art for these were repurposed from the ill-fated Mermaid World: Stories spinoff, with the first four being blatant reskins of Mystic Rocks, Kelp Sanctuary, Deepwater Cove, and Crystal Cave. I've been trying to find photographic evidence of these realms for a loooong time to little or no avail. Twilight Canal is my white whale!! I remember it being so pretty...

One of the things I've been trying to track down for ages were the realms Crowdstar released right before they folded into Glu and the game was taken offline and its assets lost to time. I went searching and managed to find Sunrise Ballroom and Continental Cliffs from artist Emery Miller, who has the renders of art & assets he did for the game on his professional website here.

Interestingly, these backgrounds were originally created for Mermaid World's spinoff sister game, the short-lived and mostly forgotten Mermaid World: Stories, which I could go on about. It seems like they ended up repurposing a lot of Miller's work for Mermaid World when they ended up scrapping "Stories."
