Ok so I've been meaning to post more about Mernet and I just forgot whoops lmao anyways.

I've finally given her a full backstory:

Born in the drow city Guallidurth as a male around, Mernet was a part of the lower classes of drow society, and suffered because of it, losing her eye before her 100th. At some point around 1270 DR, Mernet fled the city, and found the Vhaeraunite settlement of Dallnothax. She was pretty happy there, she found a new partner, adopted a child, and all in all, lived a happy enough life under Vhaeraun, until Vhaeraun died. During this time, Mernet's husband died, and after Eilistraee's death in 1379, Mernet was beset by grief of having lost her god twice and her partner. She left the settlement, leaving her child (who was about 50 at the time) to fend for herself. During her time away, Mernet did some soul searching and realized she was trans, transitioned, and eventually made her way back to Dallnothax in the mid-1480s DR, being called back by Vhaeraun's return. While she was welcomed back into the settlement with open arms, her daughter was not too happy to see her again, having stayed in Dallnothax for the century Mernet was gone.

Some other things about her:

Her daughter, Rauvaste, is one of the people mediating the tension between the Vhaeraunites and other factions in Dallnothax that have shown up in the time since Vhaeraun's death, most notably Eilistraeeans, which Mernet isn't the fondest of During Mernet's time wandering, she ended up spending most of her time in Amn and Cormyr, with some spent in Cormanthor, she's never been to the Sword Coast or anywhere further north than Cormanthor While Mernet and Rauvaste's relationship is definitely strained to borderline non-existent, Mernet does care for her daughter in her own way. That said, she does not have a maternal bone in her body and didn't really have one prior to leaving Dallnothax. Her husband was the much better parent of the two of them and while that certainly caused its problems, they made it work best they could

I put Dastarri and Mernet through them and I think these look pretty cool. Both of them would write closer to the angular font, and only Dastarri of the two of them would know High Drowic, so she has some experience reading/writing/speaking it, but it's not her primary language

Something I've been struggling with for Mernet is that she's really hard to get into the mindset of. It's so alien to me that there's an unconscious part of me that tries to soften her to make her easier to write and I have to actively hold that back because her difficulty and horribleness is the fun part to me!

Anyways, I think I've figured out what her deal is kinda. I think she lacks empathy, like the capacity to feel it. I'm not gonna get into medicalizing it cause that's not interesting to me and I find it kinda limiting, but this kinda clicks her into place for me. It explains her lack of care towards other people, it explains her strange transactional viewpoint on the world, it explains her weird sense of self (that I'm still figuring out tbh)

6. How comfortable is your OC in their skin? Do they like who they are? What would they want to change about themself?

6. How comfortable is your OC in their skin? Do they like who they are? What would they want to change about themself? Mernet is so happy in her skin post-transition. Previously, she'd removed most if not all of her scars and tattoos from when she was in Guallidurth, but that didn't fix her underlying issue of... being trans lmao. Once she transitions, she's so genuinely happy (in her own way) that she immediately goes and has sex with her new body. Granted, that got her pregnant which she was less overjoyed about, but otherwise, she's very happy with herself. To her, she's in her peak physical form and needs no further change, only maintenance

11. What does your OC carry around in their pockets? What about their bag? Mernet is a very ultilitarian person, she doesn't really carry much she doesn't need. She carries her blades on her person, some nuts or similar in a pocket to eat while walking. Her bag is basically the same, a bit of food, some money, clothes, an extra knife, a blanket, etc etc. She's not interested in carrying, anything superfluous or unnecessary

19. How does your OC handle preparing for and initiating a difficult conversation? How does the conversation itself go? She doesn't! Mernet is quite content to avoid difficult conversations. In her mind, if someone has a problem with her, that's their problem, not hers, and vice versa. If someone wants to talk to her about something difficult, she'll most likely stonewall them and avoid any deeper conversation beyond her and the other person's immediate thoughts about the topic

21. How does your OC handle criticism? Mernet does not care about other people's opinions of her. Any criticism directed at her, she takes, and throws out. She doesn't take other people's thoughts into account in general, but especially when it comes to herself. No one knows her as well as she does, so what's the point in taking others' thoughts into consideration?

Been giving Rauvaste a lot more thought lately, I think she's got anger issues. And like, for a while she's able to manage her anger pretty well, she got help learning how to cope with her anger (and how not to beat the shit out of the person making her angry). Mernet returning really fucks her up though, Rauvaste thinks she's over her issues, but this sudden discovery that Mernet was alive and well without telling her where she was going and what she was doing, not to mention coming back as a woman, really fucks Rauvaste up.

So anyways, Mernet gets the shit kicked out of her a couple times (deservedly so)

9: Everyone loves a (usually tragic) backstory. In as few words as possible, what’s theirs? Ok so I'm gonna try and use as few words as I can for this lol Mernet was born in Guillidurth (a lolthite city) as a man and suffered those abuses that Lolthite drow men do, escaped to a Vhaeraunite settlement and was happy for a while (married, adopted a kid), then her husband dies, then her god dies, and she leaves in grief (sorta) abandoning her kid. She wanders for a while, ending up siring a few other kids, transitions to female, and returns to the original settlement to a very pissed off, now adult, kid
