“- In the name of magic, I greet you, good friend. I think I owe you some... answers.” Yeah, Merzul, you do!
Quality Time At The Sanctum
So, because Nehrim is a game, and cannot represent what Actual Life would be like for the Orphan (and Kim), here, have what I think of it all.
Training is gonna be B-R-U-T-A-L. Grueling. Chores are an escape by comparison. Melvin and Arcorias are co-jointly in charge of physical training, and Vanmiria and Melvin teach magic (read lectures. The actual training comes from the respective masters)
Physical training involves:
Running laps in full armor around the Sanctum
Battle Royale with ALL the trainees, full armor, and blunt swords. Kim sucks at swordfighting, but is ok with daggers.
One-on-one sparring. At one point, everyone has fought everyone else (which leads to awkwardness bc I’m 90% sure Kim was already crushing on your character)
At some point, Melvin himself will step into the ring and beat your a$$. Usually when you’re getting too cocky.
Magical training involves:
Long, long lectures about the theory before you can even THINK about getting into the Good Stuff.
Practicing small spells until your head is splitting open with pain. Running out of Magicka is not fun.
Gradually learning bigger and bigger spells and the headaches get WORSE
Occasional accident that usually aren’t serious. (Read: Kim’s still really jumpy from his/her time as a slave. Someone surprised her/him and s/he accidentally paralyzed them for an hour)
nehrim update:
-I had more but my last update was getting long so I’m continuing it here
-having trouble understanding the lore. like I get that there’s some kinda magic corruption happening in the Southrealm and in the Dark Forest but the explanations as to what’s causing it are conflicting (don’t explain it to me, I wanna play the game and figure it out on my own)
-So near as I can figure out, according to Babyface McNerdname here, there are cracks in the world’s shell (for the revolution of the world! sorry) and magic is seeping through and corrupting the landscape, and the Order established the Arcane Sanctums in order to prevent that.
-this method for destroying arcane golems is stupidly elaborate
-but Melvin is a True Multitasker and can apply his Arcane Sanctum patch and call out when it’s time to stab/blast/whatever at the same time! Good for him!
-Still picturing him as this guy, though
“WOW SERENA YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ARCANE SANCTUMS? YOU SHOULD COME OVER TO MY PLACE AND WE CAN LOOK IT UP ON THE INTERNET!”
-what I wanna know is why it’s up to the Secret Wizard Cabal to erect and maintain these Sanctums. This is a real threat! Barateon is Merzul’s equal when it comes to magic and sheer ancient decrepitude, right? Shouldn’t he know this is going on, and wouldn’t a responsible leader do something abou ahahahahaha I can’t finish that sentence in this current political climate /sob. The man’s been in power for 1000 years, he could only be more entrenched if he declared himself god.
-Leaving the sanctum completely unmanned seems like poor planning on Merzul’s part, though
-speaking of, have to talk to Merzul for the next part of the main quest.
-Merzul, bah!
-Merzul, hmph!
-I’ve come to the conclusion that Merzul means well, but he’s a thousand-year-old archwizard with phenomenal cosmic powers and he’s lost perspective on what it’s like to be a normal person.
-... I’m gonna go sidequest some more.
