Making another baggy. This one is going to my aunt. She loves a tote.
Project Completed!
This is my second time knitting a Market Bag by Vicki Square. The net pattern is good, but the top of the bag and the handle roll. The basket weave just doesn't stay straight. I'm going to try and iron it flat on low and hopefully that will help.

Hooked on String Bags
Ever since my cousin gave me a pretty & compact reusable shopping tote from the States (a nylon Enviro- sack, I think), I've been obsessed with making a crocheted version. The first I made is of a thread locally available in Manila called Raylon #8/3-ply. It's based on a design by Deborah Erbach Burger of Crochet: The Extraordinary Realm. The FREE PATTERN is at http://cerdeb.googlepages.com. This bag is so roomy, I was once able to fit a king-sized cotton blanket in it while shopping at an Earth Day bazaar. When turned inside out, the bottom of the bag serves as a pouch for the expandable mesh portion. Recently at Tru Value I saw the Envirosack and other similar products; the lowest-priced ones go for P199 (about USD5.50). My mesh bag, which holds twice as much, costs about P75 (about USD 1.50). Currently I'm trying out other patterns with different locally available materials like cotton twine, which is even cheaper than Raylon fiber by about 30%. But aside from lower costs I'm interested in making it a more compact foldaway tote.

Deep Violet Mesh Bag
Another crocheted mesh bag I made in summer this year. Made from 100% cotton string/twine then dyed with locally available 'dyobos' in a lovely purple shade. The bag can be tucked away in its bottom pocket. This is my granny square version of a free pattern of a self-pouching string bag at http://cerdeb.googlepages.com/
